® MAGNATEST S Transmitter Systems 3.625 ® Fig. 1 MAGNATEST S transmitter systems with various test pieces for comparing sizes Characteristics * * * * Encircling test coil with round or rectangular opening cross-section. * Cables and transducers for connection to the MAGNATEST S test system. Standard diameter range between 5 and 200 mm (special sizes up to 500 mm). Transmitter identification for identifying the transmitter type by the MAGNATEST S test system. Mechanism for accomodating test coils and for continuous transport of test pieces with subsequent sorting. ® Registered trade-mark Application * * * * * Transmitters for the LF range (2 Hz to 1000 Hz) for testing predominantly ferromagnetic and austenitic components for volume characteristics. Transmitter for the HF range ( 1 kHz to 128 kHz) particularly for testing surface characteristics on components made of non-ferrous metals. Rectangular coils for integral testing of flat parts(e.g. large gearwheels or brake disks). The diameter grading of the circular coils is matched to the recommended space factor of approximately 0.4 to 0.9. In the case of cylindrical test pieces, this is the ratio between coil diameter and test piece diameter. Special-purpose transmitters with narrower diameter grading (5 mm) are available for tests with more stringent requirements as regards test sensitivity. * * * * Coils with reduced effective width are available for local cases depth and surface hardness measurements on long rotationally-symetrical test pieces (drive shafts, wheel hubs etc.). These are short coils with active field limitation by compensation windings. Surface probes for both frequency ranges are available for local measurements on flat or very large test pieces. Test pieces must be inserted into the coil opening. Testing can be carried out statically with the test piece stationary or dynamically with material throughput. The permitted throughput speed is dependent upon the instrument parameters used (essentially frequency of the excitation field). In extreme cases, it may reach the speed of free fall. A corresponding mechanical handling transport system with conveyor belts and sorting gates is available for automatic test operation. Construction MAGNATEST coils An electromagnetic field which induces, in the measuring winding, a voltage whose amplitude and phase are influenced by the metallic test piece in the field is generated in primary winding by AC voltage excitation. The encircling coils all have a transformer winding structure with glass fiber-reinforced plastic protecti ve tube, sealed plastic and plug-in cable connection. There are 2 M6 securing threads on each of the two opposite sides. All coils are prepared for installation in the conveying system. Certain coils for special installation positions require an additional coil holder (see also Overview, Table 1). For this purpose, it has a belt drive with variable-speed gearing which is designed for conveying speeds of 0.11 to 1.0 m/s. All rectangular coils with clear cross-section of 100x200 and 100x75 mm (upto 300 x 150) can be mounted on the coil holder. See also table 1 installation of the MAGNATEST coils in the conveying system. The coil adjustment device permits the height of the coil to be adjusted with respect to the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt used has a widths of 90 mm. Fig. 3 MAGNATEST S, conveying system with test coil and sorting gate Sorting gate The sorting gate is mounted on the conveyor system. It sorts the tested and classified pieces into the related sorting group. Pieces up to • 50 mm width • 120 mm length • 5 kg weight can be sorted into 3 groups Throughput up to 1 piece/s Fig. 4 Sorting gate 1) 230 V, 50 Hz 2) Other cable lengths upon request 6 3.625 03/99 Test piece sensor The test piece sensor consists of a light barrier holder with reflection-type light barrier, a terminal box and a connection cable 20 m for the connection to the I/O-module. It is used in the diameter range of 5 to 100 mm. Its application is necessary if: • • • The test position of the test piece has to be signalled in the stop and go mode (The MAGNATEST automat ically tests by internal trigger mode, if the test pieces are continuous transported. In theese cases no test piece sensor is necessary piece by piece testing). No constant distances between the test pieces can be guaranteed and the test piece sensor signal should be used for sorting information. The leading and trailing edges of the test pieces should be identified in the piece by piece mode using the functional module HZP for semi-finished product testing. Transmitter multiplexer It allows: • the simultaneous connection of up to 4 coils and probes at one MAGNATEST S test channel • the automatic switchover via test data setting(parameters of tester/transmitter input). 3.625 03/99 It is mounted in a separate housing (220x200x110mm HxWxD) according to IP 65 and is suitable for wall mounting. An additional coil cable is required between transmitter multiplexer and MAGNATEST S test channel. 7 Technical data MAGNATEST coils (standard size) Temperature resistance of the encircling coils up to 85°C on the coil tube, inside Clear opening width of the test coil LF, circular frequency range 2 Hz to 1 kHz - Overall dimensions 150x150x90 mm - Overall dimensions 250x250x90 mm 10,20,35,50,75,100 mm Ø 150,200 mm Ø Clear cross-section of the, test coil LF, rectangular frequency range 2 Hz to 1 kHz - Overall dimensions 250x250x90 mm Overall dimensions 360x250x90 mm 100x75 mm WxH 150x25 mm WxH 200x100 mm WxH 300x150 mm WxH Clear opening width of the test coil HF, short, circular, frequency range 1 to 128 kHz - Overall dimensions 100x100x40 mm 10,20,35,50 mmØ Special or special-purpose dimensions see ordering instructions MAGNATEST probes Pencil probe NF Pencil probe HF Flat probe NF Flat probe HF Probe kit for pencil probe NF Probe kit for pencil probe HF Yoke probe NF-G Yoke probe NF-H Flat probe LF-H3 35 mm Ø, length 101 mm 15 mm Ø, length 82.5 mm 35 mm Ø, length 83 mm 15 mm Ø, length 70 mm 30 mm Ø, length 80 mm 10 mm Ø, length 38.5 mm 35 mm Ø, length 88 mm 35 mm Ø, length 88 mm 58 mm Ø, length 83 mm Test piece sensor Operating range Connection cable to the I/O-module 5 to 100 mm material diameter screened Ölflex cable 4x0.5 mm2 for permanent connection 20 m in length Transmitter multiplexer Dimensions Operating range Order no. 137 992 5 220x200x110 mm (HxWxD) simultaneous connection of up to 4 coils and probes at one MAGNATEST S test channel IP 65 Author Bez/pt
