In March, four of RADA’s technical students were
invited to the Czech Republic to visit the factory and
demonstration suite at Robe Lighting’s headquarters.
Robe supply epquipment to RADA on a long-term loan
which is used for every student production.
Robe Lighting, which has its base in the town of Valašské
Meziříčí, manufactures innovative, high quality moving
lights and digital lighting products for the professional
entertainment and leisure, architectural, and themed
environment industries.
Robe hosted Marine Le Houezec, Cillian McNamara, and
Sam House, all studying for their Postgraduate Diploma
in Stage Electrics and Lighting Design, alongside
James Humby, who is studying for his BA in Technical
Theatre and Stage Management, specialising in lighting
accompanied by RADA Head of Lighting Matt Prentice.
Robe kindly sponsored the students’ three-day trip,
including their flights, hotels, and meals. The visit
included a tour of the warehouse and a display of
their latest equipment, and the students were shown a
demonstration of all the products meeting the people
who develop them. They also had the chance to meet
CEO and co-owner Josef Valchar who has recently been
on a visit to RADA himself.
Matt said ‘It is brilliant to have the support that Robe
offer us. There aren’t that many companies that
manufacture in Europe and then ship worldwide, and
the quality is great; they are leaders in the industry. The
equipment that Robe donate onsite at RADA for training
and for the shows has raised the production value of
the performances’ enormously, it is great to be able to
get Josef here and show him the impact the donation is
having on the students and their work.’
The trip is set to become an annual event for the
students as Robe continue to supply RADA allowing
students to learn their trade with cutting-edge
equipment. And it’s not all one-way - Robe already
employ a RADA graduate, Amy Schofield, in their UK
office as a Specialist Light Product demonstrator.
