Dena Fern Smith, 85, of Thermopolis, Wyoming, passed
away Friday, May 30, 2014. She was born October 27, 1929
in American Falls, Idaho graduating from Bridger High
School and attending a year of college in Billings, MT.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles
“Bud” Smith whom she married in 1947; her parents,
William and Carolyn Hinrichs; and her sister Clara Wall.
She leaves her precious memories to be cherished by: her
loving children, Patty Micheli, Charlene Jones, Bobbi
Stewart, Charles W. Smith and Tom Smith; her 17 devoted
grandchildren and her 34 adoring great-grandchildren.
Dena was filled with “Sunshine and Smiles” and shared her
light as a wife, a mother, a grandmother and as a community
leader. She brought sunshine into the lives of those she
touched as a 4-H community leader, as the Director of Foster
Grandparents, a member of Community Federated Church
and through her many years of service as a member of Vesper
Chapter #19 Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing,
crafts, gardening and music.
Dena loved the poems of Helen Steiner Rice. You could
always count on a birthday or anniversary card with a verse
by Helen. Dena's family knows, that like the title of the
following poem, she is in now in Comfort and Peace.
After the clouds, the sunshine,
after the winter, the spring,
after the shower, the rainbow,
for life is a changeable thing,
After the night, the morning,
bidding all darkness cease,
after life's cares and sorrows,
the comfort and sweetness of peace.
Services will be held Monday, at 2:00 pm in the Community
Church, Thermopolis, Wyoming. Eastern Star Funeral Rites
will be conducted graveside at the Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wiliam H. and
Carrie Gottsche Foundation, P.O.Box 790, Thermopolis,
82443.
