PRAYER FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE
MEMORARE
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that
never was it known that anyone who fled to your
protection, implored your help, or sought your
intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this
confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins,
my Mother; to you I come, before you I stand, sinful and
sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not
my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Angel Dusters are re-forming. Anyone
interested in helping with dusting and light
cleaning of the Church, please meet in the
back of the Church every Wednesday, after
the 8:00 A.M. Mass. PS - Bring your favorite
dusters and gloves.
PRAYER GARDENS AT
SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
With the nice weather approaching, we can
take advantage of beautiful areas in which to
pray privately at anytime. All are invited to
come and pray at the Outdoor Stations of the
Cross, The Rosary Garden, Mary’s Grotto, The Garden
of Guardian Angels and The Saint Peregrine Shrine.
Prayer is like a garden.
Tend it and it will be fruitful.
A Novena of Grace and Solidarity
GOD OUR FATHER, as Saint Francis Xavier
and countless of your missionaries traveled to the
ends of the earth, impelled by the love of Jesus
Christ, give me the grace to rely entirely on you,
confident in the knowledge that you raise up the humble and
the lowly. May I be united with your saints in offering you
my humble tribute of thanksgiving and praise. I implore you
to grant me, through your mercy, the blessing of living and
dying in a state of grace. I also ask this same blessing for all
those throughout the world who suffer persecution because
of their faith in you. O God, you were pleased to gather to
your Church the peoples of the world by preaching and
miracles of all your saints; mercifully grant that I may
imitate their virtues and so bear witness to the Gospel of
your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns for ever and
ever. Amen.

The altar server ministry is a serious commitment to your
parish family. Like all calls to ministry, it is God who
makes the invitation. God calls you to help our parish
worship by being an altar server. The server is the priest
and deacon’s right hand helper. Servers are to perform
their duties in a sincere and reverent manner. This is
rightly expected of them by God and his people. Your
attentiveness to the words and actions of the Mass will
assure that the liturgy will unfold in a smooth and
prayerful manner for all. This will be an experience you
will remember for the rest of your life.
FIRST CATHEDRAL IN UNITED STATES
The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of
the Blessed Virgin Mary is the first Catholic cathedral
built in the United States.
In 1789, Pope Pius VI asked Bishop John Carroll to
build a cathedral in the area of Baltimore, Maryland.
Bishop Carroll was the first bishop named in the United
States and his Diocese of Baltimore consisted of the
original 13 colonies and a third of what is today the
United States. Bishop Carroll commissioned architect
Benjamin Latrobe to design the new cathedral.
Unfortunately Bishop Carroll died before its completion.
The cathedral was dedicated on this date in 1821.
The Baltimore Catechism of 1884 was formulated at the
cathedral, and the Oblate Sisters of Providence were
founded there as the first religious order of black sisters.
In 1993, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops
designated the cathedral as a national shrine.
In August 2011, the basilica received some damage
from a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in nearby Virginia.
