Lisa Jeppson
1. My hypothesis is that I maintained a positive energy balance. My DRI for
calories is 1494 calories. My average calorie intake was 1524. My average
calorie expenditure was 1587. My calorie difference was 63 calories. My
state of energy balance was positive. My theoretical weight change was .02
pounds per day; leading to a gain of 6 pounds per year. I did exercise by
walking on a treadmill and that helps my cardiovascular system and lungs
as well as keep my bones and muscles healthy. Instead of eating the kitkat
bar, I should have eaten an apple, thus reducing my calorie and fat intake
and increasing my fiber intake. If I don’t change the way I ate, I will gain
weight resulting in potential weight gain, obesity, and heart disease. My
hypothesis is supported.
8. My hypothesis is that I met my personalized MyPlate food guidance plan for
grains. I needed 8 ounces of grain with half whole grains and I ate 10 ounces of
grains with most being whole grain. Since most of my grains were whole grain, I
had a good amount of fiber leading to less constipation and less risk of colon
cancer. Grains also provide a lot of B vitamins that help with metabolism.
However, I ate too many servings of grains leading to an excess of calories and
potential diabetes, obesity, or heart disease. Instead of having two slices of
whole wheat toast for breakfast, I could have had one slice and an apple since I
didn’t eat enough fruit either. My hypothesis is refuted.
