“YACHT TALK” February 2016 Clover Island Yacht Club Kennewick, Washington From the Helm Board of Directors Commodore Jolene Grimes Vice Commodore Mark Cope Secretary Jim Sarpolus Entertainment Dorothy Hansen Building and Grounds Dave Chojnacki Docks Kent McCue Past Commodore Larry Kuga Good news....Punxsutawney Phil has come to our rescue.....It was cloudy in PA. .....Spring is on it's way! Speaking of Spring, it's time to get the lights off your boats and do some spring cleaning. How about some new boat decking to spruce things up. A representative from Flexiteek will be here on Saturday morning, February 20th. See cruise and entertainment section of this newsletter for more details. Well our Seahawks didn't make it to the super bowl, but we sure ate some "super" chili. Winners of the annual chili cook off were: 1st Place, Jennifer Bunn, 2nd Place, Ann Bowen, 3rd Place, Jolene Grimes, and 4th Place, Angie Cunningham. Some of our projects for this year are moving along.....quite slowly...but still happening. We are still working with Charter and their contractors to install internet to the docks. Charter is paying for the installation to the docks, but we are still working out the logistics for the best way to get it to the Boat Houses and Covered Moorage. Stay tuned........ Dave Chojnacki is working with the PUD to help with the cost of installing LED lighting to the docks and the club building. This would be a great electrical savings for years to come. A white board is installed in the pantry of the kitchen. If you notice some items that are getting low please write it on the board so the "Galley Girls" can replenish. Just a friendly reminder they are not your maids, please clean up after yourselves and do not put anything in the frig that you don't intend to eat in the next few days! There is a marker on the frig, please date and label what you put in so no one eats your food! Also the cups, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. are intended for use in the club house, not at your boat. We will be voting on By-Law changes at the March meeting. An e-mail went out February 1st explaining in detail the changes. The major change is when the new board of directors will take over after they are elected. In the past they have assumed the new position immediately after the election in November. The new wording is such that the new board will take over after they are sworn in at Commodores Ball, beginning with the December board meeting. This will also give new board members some time to learn their new positions. The other changes are simple typo errors. Think Spring! Mon 31 Sat Cruise and Entertainment By: Dorothy Hansen Cruise and Entertainment News Oyster/Crab Feed Great event - 39 people ate 4 1/2 bushels of oysters and 116 people consumed 380 pounds of crab! Thanks to Mark & Joyce Buxbaum for organizing everything again. Thanks also to Julia Cunningham, Dave Chojnacki, Kerry & Mike Bass, Matt Worman, Jenee Bottineau, Steve Sigler and of course Cal & Mary Coie for going to the coast to pick up the freshest seafood ever. Also thanks to everyone else who pitched in to set up, tear down and clean up. Turns out having the annual entertainment scheduling meeting on the same day as the set up for the crab feed worked very well. Seattle Boat Show Fifty (50) people participated in the chartered bus ride to the Seattle Show on Saturday January 30 and Sunday January 31. Wow, Jolene & Mike Grimes and Jeff & Lisa Lomax really outdid themselves by planning, organizing and then serving all the riders. They also had great suggestions for dining and entertainment once in Seattle. Tickets for next years Seattle Boat Show will be $325 per couple and are on sale now. The price includes transportation, lodging and lots of food and drinks. 2016 Cruise and Entertainment Schedule The schedule has been finalized and is published in this newsletter.
