Learn how a French tobacco monopoly failed sending European stock markets tumbling and isolating the “poor” colony. Discover pathways to freedom by enslaved Africans like Coincoin, whose descendants owned a plantation. Embark on “A Tale of Two Cities” Tour Molthrop will put “meat to bones” by showing the group the places where history was made. We will start with the Creole town, visiting cemeteries and shrines that help us understand the predominant colonial culture. After a stop at the Pitot House on Bayou St. John, we will discuss Confederate statutes and contemporary viewpoints while we head to Uptown New Orleans to see the Garden District. You may disembark the tour at the Garden District to do your own exploring or to have lunch at Commander’s Palace. Chef Paul Tribute Dinner Meet in the lower lobby at 6:30 PM for a guided walk to K. Paul’s Restaurant. On the way, we will take you down Exchange Alley, where cotton factors sent messengers from their of;ices across Canal Street to bid at the St. Louis Hotel in the French Quarter. Then you’ll enjoy signature dishes at the most famous Cajun restaurant in New Orleans. Wednesday, November 15 Breakfast Lecture “Story of NOLA” Morgan Molthrop will talk about his new book on Jean La;itte, the pirate/businessman who became a hero of the Battle of New Orleans. By studying La;itte’s unfettered, free market strategies we can begin to understand a major shift in thinking brought on by American ascension. World War II Museum Your package includes tickets to the Smithsonian’s World War II Museum and the IMAX movie “Beyond All Boundaries” narrated by Tom Hanks. You are responsible for transportation to and from the museum. This is a 1.3 mile walk from the hotel. Gala Dinner & Private Show Meet in the lower lobby for a walk to Preservation Hall. We’ve rented the entire venue for a show just for you. The reception includes the best music in town and cocktails. Afterwards, we’ll walk to world famous Antione’s Restaurant where you’ll dine in the Rex Room. Brennan’s invented several egg dishes and “toast” from French bread. The restaurant is in the former mansion of Paul Morphy, world chess champion.
