Join together with members of the San
Francisco Bay Osprey Coalition including
Golden Gate Raptor Observatory volunteers
leading the Baywide nest site monitoring
and protection effort and local Audubon
Society field trip leaders and many other
local guides in an exciting gathering to
celebrate and learn about the growing
curious phenomenon of osprey nesting in
San Francisco Bay.

Michele Troughton for a guided osprey watching
walk in the Mare Island Preserve to view osprey and
great blue heron nests. Bring binoculars, scopes,
cameras (will you share or bring an extra pair?) and
hike gear-hats, sunscreen, water for 2-mile roundtrip

Kick-off the lunchtime 12noon presentation at the
Mare Island Preserve visitors center with an all
osprey slide show. Two good food spots on Mare
Island to pick up lunch on Friday: Anchor Cafe just
inside the VA Clinic, Walnut Ave and Kansas
St. and Mare Island Golf Course, Club, right

a keen field scientist and she has been immersed in viewing and issues related to best management of our osprey
for several years. Meet these informative citizen scientists at the Preserve visitor center a little before the

Diane has been studying and learning about everything
osprey and visiting osprey nest sites for 4 years. While
compiling nesting data and networking with other
volunteers, Golden Gate Raptor Observatory volunteer
Baywide osprey nesting monitors Tony Brake and Harvey
Wilson made some pretty interesting discoveries leading to
a report on their findings about ospreys in the Bay that was
published Fall 2014. Diane presents an overview of this work
and her own comprehensive knowledge of osprey life from
Maine to California and beyond. Learn what you can do to
help out with monitoring nest sites.
