Double angle formulas
sin(2x) = 2 sin x cos x

= 1 - 2 sin2 x
= 2 cos2 x - 1
= cos2 x - sin2 x

Some problems are well suited to using the
double angle formulas. Solve:
2 cos x + sin 2x = 0
2 cosx + 2 sin x cos x = 0
2 cos x (1 + sin x) = 0
2 cos x = 0
or
1 + sin x = 0
cos x = 0
sin x = -1

Because of the 1, the factors here don't help us. But
if you rewrite it using the double angle formula you
get:
2(2sinx cosx) = 1

=1
