The kids at Briarwood Elementary lost their school on May 20th, 2013 in an EF5 tornado. The $500 grant will help the school replace the much missed soccer field; which gives the students something fun and physical to do at recess. Giving back and providing support to neighbors is a vital part of the Y’s commitment to social responsibility, and programs like My Fresh Page Project help bring community improvement ideas—regardless of the size—to life. “The YMCA’s My Fresh Page Project represents the Y’s belief that a single idea from anyone can go a long way to helping make a positive change in our neighborhoods,” said Brenda Bennett, Vice President of Communications at the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City. “The Y’s grant will help bring Briarwood’s much loved soccer field back to the students.” Briarwood Elementary is one of 10 My Fresh Page Project ideas selected from more than 560 entries submitted by individuals across the country via the Y’s My Fresh Page Project webpage. After receiving 1,760 placing the idea among the most popular entries, a panel of Y judges selected it as one of four recipients of a $500 grant.
