Celebrating
Martin Luther King Jr.
By: Sarah Alkhouri & Preslee Hunter
Mrs. Medlin is the Learning Director at
Luther Burbank Elementary. When she was a
child she said that she was a tomboy. The
thing she was most scared of was spiders.
When she was a little girl she liked to climb
trees. Even because she was a tomboy, she
still liked to play with dolls.
The College and the University she
attended were Merced College and Chapman
University. First she wanted to be a dental
hygienist. She decided on teaching because
it was an easy choice to help people and it
made her
feel good.
Mrs. Medlin loves
Burbank Elementary
and she also loves the
teachers here. Mrs.
Medlin said that
Burbank students
know how to swim.

On Monday, January 18th, there
was a march to celebrate Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr.’s life,
accomplishments, and the hope he
brought to America. The march
began at the Amtrak Station on 24th Street
and proceeded down Martin Luther King, Jr.
Way. The march ended at the Merced County
Fairgrounds.
At the fairgrounds, participants were able
to listen to various speakers and watch local
groups perform. Burbank’s first grade class
and one second grade class join John Muir
Elementary to sing songs celebrating Dr.
King’s life.

be smart, logical, funny, basketball, and happy. If he was
famous he said that that the thing he would be famous for
making a cure for
cancer. If he could invent something
to make life easier he would invent a
new computer. One last thing he
answered to was that math would
be the most useful subject when
he’s an adult.
