Female: Everybody else need to know about Cantor and what kind of...
Tom: Actually no, ma'am.
Female: What?
Tom: There wasn't a single elected official, now Gray Delany worked for you,
right, Zach?
Zach: Yes.
Tom: Okay, so Zach was [inaudible 00:00:09] campaign manager.
Zach: From day one.
Tom: From day one. They later hired a young man named Gray Delany who
worked for Zach. Okay? There was not a single elected official that endorsed
Dave Brat. Not one. Let me tell you why. Walter Stosch, Republican senator,
was the author, was the patron of the largest tax increases in the 21st century.
Every single one.
Female: Yep, knew that.
Tom: And he had an employee who I didn't know whose name was Dave Brat.
Female: He was not an employee...
Tom: Yes, he was.
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
Female: He was requested to be on his board.
Tom: No, ma'am.
Female: That's a lie. That's not true.
Tom: Oh, we'll talk about lies. I'll tell you what. You know who's forgiven me?
Dave Brat. You know who I talked to today? Dave Brat. Would you like to see
what he says about Mike Del Rosso? He says he's a liar. You want to see the
text message?
Female: What I want to know is, why did you endorse Cantor?
Tom: Because Cantor was the devil I knew and Brat was the devil I didn't.
Female: Did you have to endorse anybody?
Tom: One thing Cantor didn't do was go to Washington D.C. and patron tax
increase after tax increase after tax increase.
Zach: And all the social moderates, you know...
Tom: Well, if you know who Walter Stosch is, you'll know why not a single
Republican elected official endorsed Dave. Now let me tell you subsequently.
Dave Brat's my friend, I spoke to him on the phone today. I have a text message
from him today. I have messages from him regarding what our opponent is
saying, where he says, "That is patently false. He is lying. Let me know if he
keeps it up."
Female: And what statement is that?
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
Tom: That is...do you have the statement?
Zach: Yeah, let me pull it up.
Tom: In fact, you can play the audio off the computer.
Zach: Yup, we can play the audio.
Female: Can I ask you guys about this...
Tom: No, I'll play the audio of lie after lie after lie after lie. And I've been
playing nice this whole time. That guy's a snake oil salesman. He says in his
own videos, which you should watch, but Frank Wolf wasn't going to do
anything about Benghazi. But I told him, I called him up and I told him, "He
needs to do something about Benghazi," and March 1, 2013, that very day, I
called him up and I said, "You need to do something about Benghazi."
That very afternoon, Frank Wolf [inaudible 00:02:18] Benghazi and I called
Frank Wolf on the phone and I said, "Congressman Wolf, have you ever heard
of Michael Del Rosso?" And he said, "Who? Could you spell it?" And I said,
"D-E-L space R-O-S-S-O," and he said, "No, Tom, I've never heard of him.
Why?" And in his last Facebook entry, he said [inaudible 00:02:36] Committee
has finally moved to name the Muslim Brotherhood a hostile foreign terrorist
organization. If it weren't for me and a handful of my colleagues this would've
never happened.
So chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is Bob Goodlatte from Virginia.
So I called Bob Goodlatte and I said, "Have you ever heard of Michael Del
Rosso?" And he says, "Who is he?" And I said, "He is running against you." He
says, "He's the reason you got [inaudible 00:02:57] declared the Muslim
Brotherhood a terrorist organization." And he said, "I've never heard of him,"
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
[inaudible 00:03:00] from Florida. He's the one who did the Taliban as a hostile
terrorist organization.
And I, you know what? They lied about my family, they lied about my record
and Eric Cantor was somebody I knew wasn't good. But Dave Brat I thought
was worse and you know what? I was wrong. But I'm done with the lying. I will
not let him lie his way into this job. And you ask the people who know me, all
I've done is the best I could to do what I said I was going to do. And if that's not
good enough, then God's got plans for me to do something else and that's okay,
too.
Zach: You want the audio?
Tom: You can play the audio.
Zach: And then we can play the text message from Dave. Let me play the audio
because this is just getting out of hand.
Tom: This is, you want to hear the actual audio?
Female: Wait a minute. This isn't getting out of hand.
Zach: No, I...no, no, no. I didn't mean out of hand. I'm just..this is making me
emotional because...
Tom: I'm sorry. I'm worked up because I have been so...I keep listening to lie
after lie after lie.
Female: Well, this is what we need to hear to get the lies out.
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
Zach: Yes, well...
Female: Because this will make us make an informed decision.
Zach: Yes, ma'am.
Female: That's right.
Male: Can I, may I ask a question [inaudible 00:04:07]?
Tom: Yes, sir.
Male: I want to follow up on this. If I remember right, part of what was in the
questions, I believe, is in your endorsement that you put out for Cantor.
Tom: I don't even know what endorsement I put out to beat Cantor.
Male: Well, you referenced it in a statement which came out a few weeks ago.
Tom: I don't know what bill numbers I carried this year either. I don't.
Male: There was an endorsement that...
Female: [inaudible 00:04:35]
Tom: Nobody's. Honestly I didn't know his phone number but he knew how to
use the book. There were 2,300 bills this year. I don't know what House Bill
718 was. But I know how to find it.
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
Female: Go ahead and play it then.
Tom: Play it.
Zach: I'm working on it.
Male: Can I ask...
Tom: Yes, sir. I'm sorry.
Male: My question was, the reference you gave in your statement which was
[inaudible 00:05:01] your endorsement of Cantor, you said that [inaudible
00:05:09] as they, Cantor wrote the endorsement, he wrote it and you signed it
because he had helped you win over a Democrat.
Tom: Read the whole letter. Read about Walter Stosch.
Female: Read it.
Male: I did. The question is why did you call Cantor a constitutional
conservative?
Tom: I didn't write it. I didn't know what it was.
Male: Why did you sign it?
Tom: I'm taking you at your word right now. I haven't seen it.
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
Male: But you signed it.
Tom: Okay, well, I was wrong.
Male: Okay. There you go.
Tom: Now let's play this.
Recording Interviewer: ...district voter [inaudible 00:05:44] Eric Cantor
[inaudible 00:05:48] getting elected did some grassroots for him, but now I am
down in Albemarle County. I've been following Dave's career and it's going to
matter a lot to me who he endorses. Now I haven't really followed this race too
much so far, but could you tell a little bit about your relationship with Dave and
then how you guys get along and [inaudible 00:06:10] what you just said and I
liked what you said about the issues. Have you worked with Dave? Do you
have a good relationship?
Recording Interviewee: I get along with Dave. I just talked to him about 10
days ago. He told me that he's not endorsing anybody in this race. But that's
fine. And I was one of the first people to brief him and to help him network
with the core people that actually supported [inaudible 00:06:34]...
Zach: Read my book that I wrote with Gray. It's not in there.
Recording Interviewee: the Maxwells of the world, the Delanys of the world,
and so those are all my personal friends and we, I encouraged them as we were
trying to find, as they were trying to find, identify somebody to primary Eric
Cantor and as soon as they did find him, I gave him national security briefings,
etc.
Tom: Lie.
Transcription by www.speechpad.com
Recording Interviewee: I advised him, too, I said, "You understand the
founding principles, but these are very complicated issues and the people that
we've worked with successfully that care to learn about these things, like the
Louie Gohmerts and the Michelle Bachmans and the Steve Kings of the world,
it took them several years to get up to speed." So whereas I warned him about a
lot of the very serious threats that are out there, I said, "You could never use it
in your campaign rhetoric because you're just not up to speed yet," and
hopefully he's continuing to get up to speed because quite honestly the
Republican leadership...
Zach: Now read what Dave Brat had to say about that.
Tom: If he puts any of that in writing or uses my image in any way, just let me
know. None of that's true. I've been doing this for several Congressmen around
the country with the same stupid stuff. I met him for half an hour once at a
cocktail party in Charlottesville. We talked about Islamic terrorism.
