Skating in the Park
by M. Schruba
"Hey, watch it!" yelled an older kid as he nearly ran over Sienna.
Yea, move out of the way, said another boy.
If they could have seen Sienna's face under her scarf, they would have seen how
upset she was. This was her first time skating on the outside "rink" at the park. Really, it
was just a basketball court that had been covered in a thick layer of ice. It had lots of
uneven spots, which was one of the reasons Sienna kept falling.
"Here, let me help you up," said Sienna's older sister Ellen.
Thanks, I am trying my best.
"I know, little sis, sometimes it just takes practice. Plus, this ice can be hard to skate
on."
"I am going to get better," Sienna replied.
Over the following weeks, Sienna came to the little rink and practiced every day. By
mid-January, she knew the rink well.
One day, one of the older boys said, You're doing much better than before.
Sienna was happy. Her hard work was really starting to show.
