Connect the Dots
The Liberty Bell rang for our country’s very first birthday. That was more than 200 years ago. The
bell was made in 1751 and weighs over 2,000 pounds. Today the bell is housed in Independence Hall.
The first time the Liberty Bell was rung, it cracked. People tried to fix the bell, but it cracked more
each time it rang. Although the bell has been quiet for many years, many people still go to Philadelphia
to see the Liberty Bell.
Connect the Dots
The infamous quill pen used to sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 is an important
symbol of American history. Thomas Jefferson used the quill, which was plucked from the wing
of one of his own geese to write the Declaration. The Bill of Rights as well as the Constitution
were also signed using a quill pen. Historic figures such as John Hancock, George Washington,
Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Marshall used the quill pen to write unforgettable chapters
in American history.
