Furnace Brook Middle School April 28, 2017 Game of Tiaras: Who Knew Skullduggery Could Be So Funny? Our award winning Drama Club will once again be participating in the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s Drama Festival on Saturday, April 29th. This past Wednesday they thrilled the crowd with two hilarious and excellent performances of Game of Tiaras. A summary of the play: When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (who in no way resembles a copyrighted character), terrible tragedy ensues. Terrible, hilarious tragedy. Combining the gut-wrenching plot twists of Game of Thrones, and the soul-numbing despair of Shakespearean tragedy, this adaptation of King Lear does a fabulous job showcasing the talents of our students. Thank you to Mrs. Shanahan and to all the teachers, parents, and students who worked so hard to make this a successful production. “Break a Leg” at festival! Power of One Awards This week after we presented our Power of One Awards to students who made a difference in the lives of others through acts of kindness. Power of One Awards are special because students are nominated by teachers, other students or by community members. These prestigious awards are issued each trimester, and parents are informed by email when their son or daughter receives one. Here are pictures of our sixth, seventh and eighth grade winners: Have a wonderful weekend, Principal Patrick Sullivan, Assistant Principal Maureen Kemmett and Assistant Principal John Mills 2017 FBMS MCAS Testing Dates ● Math: May 8-9 (Grades 6-8) ● Science: May 17-18 (Grade 8 only) Homework Helpers will run every Wednesday immediately after school in the library for one hour. This program is available to all students without charge due to the generosity of the PTO. There is no need to pre-register, your student should just plan to arrive in the library with all of their work (they are not allowed to go back to classes or lockers). Once they sign in, students are expected to stay in the library for the full hour. This is a great opportunity for students to get a little extra support with any homework they find challenging. 6th Grade Parents: Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your child's physical for 7th grade. According to MA state regulations, your 6th grade child must be fully immunized and have a current physical exam on record in the Clinic. This needs to be completed and submitted before your child can enter 7th grade. You may send in your child's most recent physical at this time, but it must be dated on or after Sept 1, 2016. If your child has a physical during the summer, it may be mailed to FBMS or faxed to #781-834-5899 c/o the Clinic. 8th Grade Parents: We are still missing some Washington DC parent and physician consent forms. Please send these in immediately. If you have any questions as to whether or not your child has actually handed in the forms, you may email me at [email protected]. Texts from your child: If you receive a text message from your child at school asking you to pick up him or her because he/she is not feeling well, please let your child know that he/she must be seen at the nurse's office before they can go home. If the nurse feels your child is sick and needs to be dismissed, you will receive a phone call directly from us asking you to pick up your child. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this. Please feel free to call the Nurse's Clinic at # 781-319-3965 with any medical concerns or questions you may have. Thank you! Please feel free to call the clinic with any questions or concerns at 781-319-3965 _________________________________________________________________________________ PTO UPDATESS FUNDrive this weekend!
