The Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG) is Australia's peak national body linking professionals working
across the multidisciplinary fields of ageing. Since 1964, the AAG has connected professionals with an interest
in gerontology to help them collaborate and exchange information on ageing.
The multidisciplinary nature of our association is one of our key strengths. With over 1,000 members across
every State and Territory in Australia, our members include geriatricians, researchers, policy makers, nurses,
allied health professionals, social workers, service providers, designers, consultants and other gerontology
specialists.
Members connect through forums, workshops, seminars, webinars and conferences, as well as through
participation on committees and special interest groups.
Actively engaged globally, AAG is a member and the executive office of both the International Association of
Gerontology and Geriatrics Asia Oceania Region (IAGG-R) and the International Longevity Centre – Australia
(ILC-Aus).
AAG is well networked with the academic and research community and has 17 Collaborating Research Centres.
AAG’s peer reviewed Australasian Journal of Ageing (AJA) is available to members. Working collaboratively
with governments to promote translational ageing research, AAG is actively involved as a sponsor and member
of the National Aged Care Alliance (NACA) and the implementation of the Australian Government’s Aged Care
Reforms.
AAG receives funding from the Australian Government to provide a range of activities to build capacity and
support innovation based on robust evidence of what works in practice.
AAG’s strategic direction is to increase its voice and influence through providing independent, evidence based
and multi-disciplinary approaches to ageing and aged care to key stakeholders.
