Agenda items 1 2 Minutes of the last meeting - these were notes of the discussion rather than minutes NOTE: Pam Colton (SCC) has offered to help with our CYPPN meetings by organising the agenda, taking minutes and sending them out, as well as keeping the mailing list up to date. She is merging the mailing lists being coordinated by Sheffield Futures and CYPPN. Ideas for way forward Lesley fed back on the last meeting including: How do we respond to strategies? How are we represented on strategic boards? How we tell the stories of children and young people? How do we link with the ‘Thriving Leadership’ Group established by VAS? Lesley distributed the terms of reference that were agreed last year and suggested that the 4 key headings are set as agenda items each meeting, as well as Update from members: 3 Representing Views Networking and Information Sharing Campaigning Sharing good practice and continuing professional development. Updates from members Sheffield Young Carers – successful exhibition by young carers as part of Carers Week in the Winter Gardens. The Young Carers SCC contract is likely to go out to tender in the autumn. 1 SYC met with SCC re public health funding and suggested that we meet with Cllr Iqbal as a Network to inform him of all the work that VCS does in meeting public health outcomes. Cllr Iqbal has recently taken responsibility for Public Health; Lesley suggested asking for a Freedom of Information request on what did Public Health fund and what does it fund now?: AP1: Lesley to ask Carrie at HealthWatch to request FoI and then Lesley to write to Cllr Iqbal to request meeting Consortium for Children and Families – issue refunding for nursery spaces for babies; many nurseries have long waiting lists. Consortium is wanting to create a hub and spoke model, so that consortium is an enabling organisation that will disseminate information out to local communities about Early Years: AP2 Maxine to follow up with Barrie about exploring this further, using student volunteers AP3: Lesley to contact VCF Leadership Group to hold event on Early Years Sheffield Futures – what’s on guide has been produced by sheffieldr – hard copies available from Saeed. Sf are working with the Showroom to training young people on setting up a film club in their communities: event on 24th July in Showroom, 10-2pm Unity Gym – Saeed explained how useful CYPPN is for the group, to be able to collaborate and for young people’s voices to be heard. Shelter – they have had a SCC audit – the first I n12 years. Shelter participated in the Quality by Right standard pilot and found the participation training very helpful. They are planning a participation event for the end of the summer, using a graffiti artist to create an exhibition. Sheffield Hallam University – Maxine is Equality and Community Engagement Manager, SHU are wanting to be a community-friendly place – can offer space for exhibition to showcase our work. They are developing tools for young practitioners moving from FE to HE. In the Inclusive Education Department, they are supporting students to support vulnerable children and young people. Maxine was part of the Men Up North event in June and is hoping to create a discussion forum as follow up on how to link organisations that work with young men. AP3 Maxine to organise forum, and circulate a date Wildlife Trust – undertaking a major review of how Trust works and how wildlife education fits in national curriculum – and will keep us informed. The Trust has funding for events which they send round the network and have had a very good response. This highlights another value of the network. A film called Project Wild Thing about outdoor education has been produced which is being shown soon. Wild at Heart intergenerational project activities are being planned for the autumn. Also delivering Forest School training with 2 students at SHU. Shine – Public Health are going to be funding Tier 1 And 2 obesity prevention work but not Tier 3 which is work that Shine does with already obese young people. Shine has responded to the consultation. Shine has been donated a building which it is slowly doing up including a gym and dining room/kitchen Museums Sheffield – have received national funding which will enable MS to re-establish itself as a major museum, also means that work with children and young people can be expanded which they want to do through partnership working. Suggestion about exhibition of young people in Sheffield and what VCS does to be held in winter gardens?, including case studies AP4 Graham to invite wider network to a meeting to discuss potential exhibition 4 Chilypep – are working three major projects around mental health, young carers and domestic/sexual abuse. The DSA group want to campaign for better support for children and young people affected by domestic and sexual abuse. They want to consult with young people, so will be in contact through the network with members to see how they can contribute. Strategic Boards Lesley spoke about how we are represented on strategic boards at the moment including 019+ Partnership Board and Children’s Health and Well-Being Board. We agreed that it would be good to circulate the papers that the reps receive to the whole network to enable any comments to be sent to the reps before the meetings. However, the papers often only come out a week before the meeting. AP5 Sara and Lesley to forward papers from recent strategic board meetings The Children and Young People’s Domestic Abuse Working Group is still going: AP6 Lesley to circulate information 4 Opportunities Together Women have funding to provide support to girls aged 13-18, the first year of the project is being spent to look at what services are needed, any gaps and what young women are wanting. They are holding focus groups and will circulate information via the network. They have held focus groups with Young Carers and Chilypep plus others so far. 5 Dates of next meeting Tuesday 2nd September, 10-12pm: Town Hall, room G42 3
