Prayer
“The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, paence,
kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
There is no law against such things.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.” Gal. 5: 22, 23, 25, 26.
Holy Spirit we ask you to be with us as we look to deepen our commitment
to teaching in light of the Catholic faith.
May your fruits be ever-present as we learn, grow and teach for the sake
of Christ’s Gospel. We make this prayer to you through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

I was fortunate to be in the audience of the Young Voices Speak Up Award, at St
Simon Peter’s last night. Two of our students, Rebecca Ruthven in Yr 6 and Kate
Norman in Yr 5, proudly represented our school with topics of “Indonesia” and
“Dyslexia” respecvely. They took the stage and captured the audience with the
depth of knowledge of their chosen subjects and they spoke with confidence,
sincerity and credibility. Congratulaons, Rebecca and Kate!
CONFIRMATION
Last Friday, 19 September, our Yr 6 students completed their Confirmaon
preparaon program with a retreat day of prayer and reflecon at the North Perth
Monastery and on Tue 23 we were privileged to welcome Bishop Don Sproxton to
Liwara. He spent me with all the candidates and engaged them in an enlightening
discussion on the Sacrament. Bishop Don was delighted with the candidates’
knowledge and readiness to receive the Sacrament of Confirmaon and
congratulated the staff and parish sacramental coordinators for their commitment. I
pray that the gi= of the Holy Spirit will inspire the candidates to be true and
generous witnesses to Christ’s love. We now look forward to the celebraons
tonight and tomorrow evening at 7.00pm in the All Saints Church.
God Bless

PERSPECTIVE ABOUT CHRISTIAN PARENTING
Dear Parents,
Most Catholics have no recollecon of their
Bapsm whatsoever. This is because our Bapsm
occurred a few weeks a=er our birth and we
were incapable of knowing what was going on or
of expressing an opinion on what was about to
happen to us. It was our parents and godparents
who answered on our behalf when the priest
asked, "Will you be responsible for nurturing this
child in the faith and life of the Catholic
Church?" When the me came to receive
Confirmaon, the me also arrived for us to
begin speaking on our own behalf.
of the Old Testament, which one is the most
important?" They remembered clearly the answer
that Jesus gave, "The passage from the Book of
Deuteronomy Chapter Six, Verse Four: You shall
love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your mind and with all your soul." Even
though the Pharisee asked for only one rule or
regulaon, Jesus gave him two. "And from the
Book of Levicus Chapter Nineteen, Verse
Seventeen: You shall love your neighbour as
yourself; these are the greatest of all the rules
and regulaons."
Before the Holy Spirit came to the Apostles for
the first me, they were gathered together in the
upper room of a house. They were slowly
recovering from the events of Good Friday; they
were frightened and nervous about Jesus'
promise to them, "You will receive power when
the Spirit has come upon you". They did not
realise that Jesus had prepared them well for
what was about to happen to them. The Spirit
arrived with a great wind and with tongues of
fire and their hearts were filled with the power
of the Spirit and as the saying goes, "A burning
heart will soon find for itself a flaming tongue":
They were able to speak about their faith with
boldness and confidence and share with others
what they had seen, experienced and learnt from
seeing Jesus in acon.
They were able to bring healing to people who
were hurng.
They were able to work out disagreements by
remembering what Jesus had taught them:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, the meek and
humble, the merciful, those who hunger and
thirst for what is right, those who mourn and are
able to enter into the sufferings of others, those
who are persecuted in the cause of what is right.
So, on Pentecost Sunday, when a new group of
young people is about to formally receive the
power of the Holy Spirit in Confirmaon and begin
speaking for themselves, we might cast a mely
glance over our own lives to see how well we
have spoken for ourselves. What are our reacons
as the power of the Spirit connues to be
revealed in our lives; are the two greatest
commandments alive and acve? How "blessed"
are we in living the inspiring words of Jesus about
being humble and merciful, in contribung to the
welfare of the disadvantaged, in standing up for
Chrisan values?
The Apostles also remembered the day a
Pharisee came to Jesus and asked him, "Jesus, of
all the 613 rules and regulaons
If, as the most significant people in the lives of our
children, we are making a real effort to exercise
the power of the Spirit within us, then, our
children will really begin to "answer for
themselves" and follow our example to reveal
Jesus to others by engaging in Chrisan thinking
and acon.
"May the Spirit of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with
you always and may we go in peace to love and
serve the Lord.
Amen."
