Arrowhead Library System Spring 2014 Helping Public Libraries Serve the Citizens of Rock County Library Stats 2013 Overall circulation 1,956,703 Total materials collection: 612,185 Intra System Delivery: 170,736 items Libraries Help Inform Public Regarding the Affordable Care Act & Enrolling in the Healthcare Marketplace. ALS is a part of the Rock Regional Enrollment Network committee. Rock County Public Libraries are holding enrollment sessions with CACs and facilitators to help citizens get the coverage they need within the 2014 enrollment period. ALS also created a convenient website with local assistance information that is useful to citizens and agencies alike: http://als.lib.wi.us/AffordableCareAct.html The Great Outdoors @ your library A collaborative project that with RC agencies, organizations, and individuals that highlights Rock County / Wisconsin outdoor recreation opportunities and library resources. Grants: Hearing Loop project - ALS has applied for a grant that will provide hearing loop devices at all 7 RC public libraries. The 2014 summer library program’s “Fizz,Boom, Read” theme supports both literacy and science. Libraries provide reading incentives and programs that encourage kids to keep reading throughout the summer. Studies show that children that read in the summer do better in school in the fall. Last year Rock County Public Libraries enrolled over 2000 children in their combined summer library programs. A Mobile Makerspace - allows all 7 RC public libraries to offer unique programming that allows patrons to have hands-on experience with technology such as 3-D printers, stop-motion filming and more. Supporting Early Literacy through the Growing Wisconsin Readers initiative ALS and Hedberg Public Library have applied for an LSTA grant to support “1000 books before Kindergarten” - a system-wide project. ALS moves to Milton 2014 will see the system moving to the lower level of the Milton Public Library. Advantages: Lower rent, improved internet connection, inside the Rock County libraries wide area network, improved delivery area. Mango, an outstanding language learning subscription database is available at a number of ALS libraries. Hedberg Public Library in Janesville has developed a special area packed with reference materials just for job seekers plus they offer a “job seekers open lab” on a regular basis.
