Dean and Distinguished International Professor
College of Business August 2007-present.
The University of Nevada is a Carnegie classified Doctoral/Research Extensive and Land Grant
University. Founded in 1874 the university has a 2016 enrollment of approximately 21,500
students in twelve colleges and schools. One of the country’s largest study abroad programs is
housed on campus. (University Studies Abroad Consortium) The College of Business is AACSB
accredited in Business and Accounting. The University of Nevada, College of Business
accomplishments and my activities have included:
Leadership and Administration. Responsible for leading, coordinating and facilitating internal and
external activities of the University of Nevada, College of Business while working with
approximately 110 faculty, staff and professional personnel and 3300 students at the undergraduate
and graduate levels. Degree programs in multiple undergraduate disciplines; MBA and specialized
MS programs and PhD program in Economics.
Administrative oversight of College of Business Sponsored Research programs. Average total
awards of approximately $4,000,000 per year over the last three years. Awards to individual faculty
and college departments and offices from state, federal agencies including: Small Business
Administration; Department of Agriculture; Department of Energy; Department of the Interior;
Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Facilitated creation and modification of PhD program in Economics. Collaboration in economics
with faculty from Business and College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.
Program assigned to College of Business, Economics in 2010. Current enrollment approximately
25 students.
Differential Tuition. Guided adoption of new Regent’s policy allowing for differential fess on high
demand and/or high cost programs. Currently applied to graduate business courses. Revenue
generated used to enhance graduate programs with new faculty in management, partial funding of
two positions in accounting, creation of new position of Corporate Relations to foster career
services for graduate students; acquisition of new software (Wharton Research Data Systems,
Qualtrics, etc.) and data bases to support faculty and graduate student research.
Directed process for creation of On-line Executive MBA Program as a non-state funded academic
program. Facilitated creation of undergraduate Bachelor of Science in General Business degree.
Formed exploratory committee to investigate creation of PhD in Business Administration with
work ongoing. Worked with faculty to modify undergraduate degree program requirements to align
with University and Regent’s policy and expectations.
Student Success. Directed enhanced student engagement with creation of new student
organizations, Business Student Council, a College-wide annual Honors and Awards Banquet and a
Business Week event that includes industry speakers, student engagement opportunities and social
events. Fund raising for remodeling of space in business building to create the E.L. Cord Student
Success Center. Created new Student Outreach Center with space and staff to facilitate student
internships, projects and career placement.
Western Association of Collegiate Schools of Business. President in 2012. Member 2007-2016.
Organization includes deans from accredited business schools in the Western United States. States
represented include Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and
Washington. Program chair and presided over 2012 annual meeting. 2013 Panel member, New
Paradigms in Business Education; 2011 Panel Chair, Financial Strategies.
Corporate Partners Program. Created a program in 2008 with current membership of twenty major
businesses including the following: Arvato Bertelsmann, Microsoft, Intuit, Wells Fargo, Barrick
Gold Corporation, Caesar’s Entertainment, Server Technology, Sierra Nevada Corporation and
others. Companies make annual donation to support College activities, including student outreach;
internship programs, career placement and extracurricular activities such as annual Honors and
Awards Banquet and Business Week event.
National Rankings. College recognized by Bloomberg BusinessWeek with 2013 #24, 2011 #4, 2009
#21, and 2007 #17 ranked part-time MBA program in the United States. 2008- 2014 “Princeton
Review Best Business Schools” “US News and World Report, 2012, 2013 Best Undergraduate
Business Programs.” Implemented Online-Executive MBA program recognized by US News and
World Report in January 2013 and ranked #29 in United States in 2015; ranked #4 by
BusinessMBA.org.
Collaboration with Colleges of Science and Engineering and School of Journalism. Worked to
develop curriculum around entrepreneurship and the MBA program. Results allow students from
other colleges to create programs that allow for development of business skills following or during
completion of degree in their undergraduate major discipline. Degrees include BS in Science
disciplines/MBA and BS in Engineering/MBA. University wide entrepreneurship minor. Member
of University Renewable Energy Center Administrative Board.
Hispanic Community Engagement, “Imagine 2020.” 2007-2013 Created and secured funding for
program for engagement of the Nevada Hispanic community including student recruiting
initiatives directed at K-12 Nevada Hispanic students and development of a Mexico international
university partner program. (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey,
Chihuahua campus) Partnered faculty with program to foster instruction, research and outreach
activities with the Nevada Hispanic community. Hired director for the program. Program
sponsors Spanish radio business talk show and outreach programs in Las Vegas, Nevada. Includes
Small Business Administration funding and corporate support from AT&T and Wells Fargo.
International Exchanges and Business. Created initiative in the College of Business with college
partnerships in countries including China, Mexico, Poland and Germany. Outcomes included
visiting students and scholars from Fudan University, Shanghai, China and continuing engagement
with Lanzhou University, School of Management in Lanzhou, China and the Chihuahua campus of
Monterrey Tech University in Mexico. Coordinated creation of international study programs in
London, Toronto and Macau as well as travel study program in New York. 2017 programs to
include Singapore and Australia. Summer in London program with housing at University of
London is in partnership with Lee School of Business at UNLV. Member Strategic Advisory
Committee, School of Management, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, China.
Enrollment Initiatives. Leadership of College of Business activity as part of university initiative in
2007/2008 with College SCH enrollment increases of 17% graduate and 6.4% undergraduate in
first year. Two year enrollment increase from 2011 to 2012 for entire College of Business of 17%.
Enrollment increases correspond with approximately 17% budget decrease during applicable times
and most of the major publications rankings and recognitions of College academic programs.
College of Business freshman retention rate of 2014 86% to 2016 85%.
Research Initiatives. Created and funded Dean’s Research Professorships in the College of
Business that recognize and reward long term sustained high research productivity by College of
Business faculty. Created and funded Dean’s Research awards of $4,000 for publication in top
journals in each business academic discipline. Expanded summer research support for junior
faculty to include payment of monthly salary. Increased conference and research support funds for
all untenured, tenure track faculty. Fund raising for new named endowed professorships that
includes five positions currently endowed or pledged as part of future estate gifts with total of over
$4,000,000 in value. Fund raising is on-going.
Entrepreneurship. Developed college initiatives related to entrepreneurship including a university
wide academic minor and certificate, an entrepreneurship club and other activities. Secured external
funding for professorships, operating costs and student awards. Development activities include
approximately $8,000,000 raised for named center, professorships, operating costs, additional
$3,000,000 private investment fund for student led ventures, etc. and are on-going. Additional
funds donated to renovate College space and technology to create “maker space” and design studio
for students, faculty and staff.
Nevada Small Business Development Center, State-wide Program,
Program of the United States Small Business Administration. Administrative responsibilities for
approximately thirty employees in the Nevada Business Environmental Program, Center for
Regional Studies, Bureau of Business and Economic Research, and Nevada State Demographer’s
Office. Contracted with City of Las Vegas to provide business startup and incubator service to the
city in Business Success Center a collaborative effort including the Las Vegas Urban Chamber.
Desert Farming Initiative Collaboration between the College of Business and the College of
Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources at the University of Nevada. The HDFI works
towards three goals: Develop, implement and provide resources for an educational program in
sustainable farming systems for high desert climates; Provide opportunities for research and handson educational experience to faculty, students and community; Demonstrate working agricultural
systems that address the challenges of sustainability for the agricultural community.
College of Business Maintenance of Accreditation by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business) including comprehensive strategic planning, enhancement of learning
outcomes and assessment procedures, established new standards for faculty qualifications, etc. Led
2009 and 2014 University of Nevada maintenance of accreditation in business and accounting.
University of Nevada Task Force for Economic Development and Community Engagement.
Created concept and directed implementation of organization for business and economic
engagement entitled “Business Services Group.” Regular meetings with University President and
other university administrative leaders to plan University economic engagement activities.
Dean and Provost Search Committees. Worked as chair or committee member to facilitate hiring
for Dean of Engineering, Dean of Journalism and University Provost.
Accreditation Activities
Member, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business Committee on Initial
Accreditation. Committee considers all applications for initiating process and steps to initial site for
accreditation of business schools from around the world. Official AACSB Mentor for School of
Business seeking initial accreditation.

COMMUNITY AND STATE ENGAGEMENT
KNPB Public Television Broadcasting, Reno, Nevada, Member, Board of Trustees and
Technology Committee. KNPB is a PBS member television station in Reno, Nevada, founded
April 19, 1982, the station is owned by Channel 5 Public Broadcasting, Inc.
Committee to Study the Funding of Higher Education for the State of Nevada, Member.
Appointed by Nevada Governor to Interim Study Committee 2011/12. Committee recommended
changes to funding formula that included the adoption of performance based funding model for
state higher education.
Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems, Member of Board of Directors. 20132014, NIAS is a
state sanctioned non-profit organization that oversees the Nevada FAA UAS test site designation.
Goal of developing state resources to provide an environment for accommodating all types of
autonomous systems.
Battle Born Venture, Member, Advisory Board. Battle Born is an evergreen venture capital
program, overseen by the Nevada Governor’s Office for Economic Development under the
auspices of the US Treasury’s State Small Business Credit Initiative. It invests in early stage
Nevada enterprises in: aerospace & defense, agriculture, energy, healthcare, IT, logistics &
operations, manufacturing, mining, tourism & gaming, water.
TEDX University of Nevada, Team Member, 2013-2015 Created by faculty in the College of
Business and hosted and sponsored by the College of Business and the Executive MBA Program.
Northern Nevada Skilled Labor Think Tank, Member, Community organization exploring
practices and methods to expand industry access to skilled labor force,
State of Nevada, Trade Delegations, Member. Participated as higher education leader in Governor
