What is LIVESTRONG at the YMCA? Livestrong at the YMCA, a free 12-week fitness program, helps a person shift the focus from fighting cancer to regaining strength and confidence and improving an overall sense of well-being. Participants are paired with YMCA-certified Livestrong coaches, who tailor the program to meet individual needs, whether it’s building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance or improving confidence and self-esteem. New exercises are added gradually. ONCE ENROLLED • During weekly meetings, certified YMCA health and wellness instructors will give personal, individualized instruction to the participants. The instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise, and supportive cancer care. Participants, and their families, will have full-access to the Y with a three-month membership. • The LIVESTRONG at the YMCA professional will develop a plan based on the needs of the survivor that incorporates cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, balance and flexibility. “ LIVESTRONG at the YMCA gives survivors a game plan and guidelines on how to stretch muscles, do safe cardio exercises and make lifestyle changes.
