Final review for subject‐verb agreement:
(feel free to look at your handouts as we review today)
• Can you define or explain subject/verb agreement to your neighbor?
• What does it mean that a noun, prounoun or verb has "number"?
• Can you define the word "antecedent"?
Nov 262:03 PM
The most important (and basic)rule to remember is...
• A singular subject takes a singular verb, while a plural subject takes a plural verb.
NOTE: The trick is in knowing whether the subject is singular or plural. The next trick is recognizing a singular or plural verb.

Antecedents ‐ reminder. They are the words(nouns) that a pronoun replaces. In the first example, I underlined the antecedent, chose the pronoun, and drew an arrow. For 2 and 3 you need to figure that out.
1) My grandfather was sent along with (his, their) unit to fight in Europe during WWII.
2) Each person at home wrote to (his or her, their) relatives overseas.
3) Almost every woman whose husband was fighting overseas had (her, their) own deep worries about (his, their) own survival.
