HOMEWORK 3
1) A manometer containing mercury is used to measure the pressure increase experienced
By a water pump as shown figure given above .Calculate the pressure rise if h  7 cm of
mercury.All dimensions are in cm.
2) Figure given below shows a cross flow heat exchanger used to condense Freon -12 .
Freon-12 vapor enters the unit at a flow rate of 0.07 kg/s .Freon -12 leaves the exchanger as a
liquid ( SG=1.915) at room temperature and pressure. Determine the exit velocity of the liquid.
3) A water turbine is located in a dam. The volume flow rate through the system is 0.315
m3 / s .The exit pipe diameter is 1.2 m. Calculate the work done by ( or power received
from) the water as it flows through the dam. See figure above.
3) A hexane pump is illustrated in figure given below .The flow rate is 0.015 m3 / s ; .
Inlet and outlet gage pressure readings are – 4 kPa and 190 kPa respectively. Determine the
required power input to the fluid as it flows through the pump.
4) Fill in the blanks of the following chart. The first line is an example of what is
required.
