making play-doh mud. Physical activity will be incorporated into
this workshop by way of races and relays with garden themes.

own versions in ceramic clay. Learn the steps from wet clay to

Architecture 101: Explore, Design, Build

This course will “build” up your knowledge
of architecture--from building basics
to original architectural design. The
first two days of this course is all about
exploring architecture near and far, small
and large--we’ll take a walking fieldtrip
around Plattsburgh, looking at historic
architecture and modern design. There’s
a lot more to your local architecture than
you’d think! The next few days are all about design: what makes
a good building? We’ll test theories with hands-on projects-how sturdy is your arch bridge? And we’ll start designing our
own architectural masterpiece from scratch! The last few days
of the camp we’ll be putting it all together. We’ll learn construction basics, select real building materials, and get going on

The Evolution of Steve: Social Studies in the World of
Minecraft

can learn from it? Just how
big were the pyramid projects
of Giza? Was life really easier for cavemen? What did the
agricultural revolution mean for humans? What about the
industrial revolution? Resource management and the Environment? Laws? Cities? Communities? What’s the big deal? With
our week long look at these questions, we’ll use Minecraft as
our world to experiment and look for some answers. We’ll
investigate classic building structures and recreate them in
Minecraft, use the basics of survival to talk about the change
of humans over time and we’ll look at resource availability and
learn what it takes to be a good steward of our own backyard.

and Jack and the Magic Tree House
series. Each day we will read an entire
book and do exciting, fun activities to

The schedule for the week will be as
follows: Monday – Dolphins at Daybreak
- Join Annie and Jack as they take a journey to the middle
of the ocean! Tuesday – Lions at Lunchtime- Annie and Jack
explore the vast plains of Africa. Wednesday – Twister on
Tuesday – The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie back
to the 1870’s! They land on the prairie near a one-room schoolhouse where they meet a teenage schoolteacher, some cool
kids, and have a very scary surprise! Thursday – Season of the
Sandstorms – Jack and Annie travel back in time to a desert
in the Middle East at the behest of Merlin who has given them
a rhyme to help on their mission. From camel rides and oases
to ancient writings and dangerous sandstorms, here’s another
Magic Tree House filled with mystery, history, and magic that
kids love to read about. Friday – Eve of the Emperor Penguin –
Annie and Jack are in the super-cold continent of Antarctica!
Their task is to find the Cave of the Ancient Crown. Instructor

and production. In this course
we’ll take the idea of web comics beyond the static and into the

interactive features to take your static drawings to the next

various biomes and landforms we see
around us. How do the mountains in
the Himalayas compare to those in
the Adirondacks, and why do they
look different? What types of rocks
are there, and how do they change
based on wind, water, and fire? We’ll
explore similarities of landforms and
biomes around the globe along with the effects of tectonics
and erosion to better understand what makes hills, valleys,
and plains. With this knowledge we’ll create our own worlds in
Minecraft using several tools including World Painter, World
Edit, Photoshop, and even NASA imaging. Are you ready to

camera can do. We will explore all types of photography (macro,
trick, action, and self portraits). We will work with many features in the camera including flash modes and settings. Each
day we will take pictures, develop them, and scrapbook our
results in a notebook. Each student will bring home their own
photography notebook to practice and teach others in their
family. We will finish the week with a Photography Show for
our families to see our results. Please feel free to bring your
own camera so you can learn all about it. Cameras are available
to use if you do not have one. We will print pictures daily and
have a Photo Exhibit to display for our families. Instructor is

Recreating History - A
Minecraft Exploration of
Local History

has turned into a tool for recreating the worlds of the past
and future. Students and Teachers alike, are using Minecraft
to recreate history, map the land around us (have you seen

about our local history and recreating (and improving?) the
buildings and architecture of our backyard and beyond. No
experience with Minecraft is necessary and an account will

animation, puppeteering and storytelling using the characters you know and
love from Minecraft. We’ll work with 3D

light. Import your own builds from Minecraft as scenery,
props, and even include your character skins to tell stories!
