OUR NEW NAME
Our history was
forged in steel.
teel is an alloy of iron and carbon that is widely used in construction
and other applications because of its hardness and it’s ultimate
strength, which is the maximum stress that a material can withstand
while being stretched or pulled before failing or breaking. Other
materials are often added to the iron/carbon mixture to produce
steel with desired properties. Chromium increases hardness and
melting temperature. To inhibit corrosion, at least 11% chromium is
added to steel so that a hard oxide forms on the metal surface;
this is known as stainless steel.
Chromium takes the strength of steel, and makes it
even stronger. Chromium is a chemical element,
which has the symbol Cr, and atomic number 24.
It is a steely-gray, lustrous, hard metal that takes a high
polish, resists tarnishing, and has a high melting point. The name of
the element is derived from the Greek word chrōma, meaning color,
because many of its compounds are intensely colored.
Chromium metal has proven of immense value due to its high
corrosion resistance and hardness. A major development was the
discovery that steel could be made highly resistant to corrosion and
discoloration by adding metallic chromium to form stainless steel.

Dear Members:
Welcome
home to
CHROME!
2/3
Your Washington Community Federal Credit Union is
now your CHROME Federal Credit Union. Quite simply,
it’s a whole new way to bank.
I would like to start by introducing myself.
So, hello! I’m Christopher George, President and Chief Executive Officer at
CHROME.
I have been with your Credit Union for five years, working behind the
scenes in IT and Operations. I have served as President for the last year and
am proud to have also taken the title of Chief Executive Officer upon Ed
Orisko’s April 1, 2015 retirement. Prior to the Credit Union, I worked in
executive roles at several financial institutions in Ohio and West Virginia.
Many of you are aware that Ed’s 30 years of service to our Credit Union
saw the organization grow and adapt. Founded in 1971 as Washington Steel
Employees Credit Union, we later took on a community charter that
Christopher George
President & CEO
allowed us to serve all the residents of Washington County and changed our
name.
Now, under my leadership, we are going in an exciting new direction.
CHROME is simply good banking; which means easy-to-use accounts,
less fees, more stores and smart people who can’t wait to help. We’ll also be
serving up awesome online and mobile banking, CHROME Confidence
privacy and security assurance, really good coffee and free wifi all day.
We hope you love our shiny new name as much as we do. Our team has put
together this document to answer your questions and get you as excited as
we are for all that your Credit Union plans to offer you in the years to come.
Welcome home to CHROME!

FAQs
3/3
You’re probably wondering…
The ins-outs-and-whathaveyous:*
What do I need to do?
Was there a merger?
NOTHING! Nothing will change for you as a Credit Union member.
Your debit card, credit card, checks, account number, auto transfers,
payments, and everything else remain exactly the same. Over the next
year we will gradually issue new cards, checks, and so on with our
shiny new name. Until you hear otherwise, just sit back and relax.
Why did we change our name?
Washington Community Federal Credit Union is a mouthful! It’s tough
to say, tough to write, and hard to remember. We were also getting
confused with the many other banks and credit unions in the area that
have the word ‘Washington’ in their name. We think our Credit Union
is special and different, and we wanted our name to reflect that.
Why select this name?
Our history was forged in steel. When you add the element Chromium
to steel you get shiny, strong, stainless steel. That’s how we see
ourselves: strong, stainless, simple. So we shortened Chromium
to CHROME so we’d have an easy-to-remember name that shines.
Are you adding new branches?
No, we’re adding STORES. Stores replace branches in the new
CHROME model. You’ll be able to come in, get a free cup of coffee,
use our wifi, and have a conversation about your finances.
We’re starting with remodeling our Racetrack Road store, then we’re
remodeling our Griffith Avenue store.
What about the website?
We can still be found at washfcu.org. You can also find us at
chromefcu.org. Our new website is set to be live this July,
but don’t worry. Our old website will redirect you. Again, relax.
You don’t need to change a thing.
Are the membership requirements
still the same?
Yes. Anyone who lives, works worships or attends school
in Washington County can open an account at Chrome.
We’re hoping to open membership to more counties in
the near future.
What about the employees?
Like any growing business, we’re hiring a lot of fresh new faces!
Many of the people you’ve come to know in our branches have been
promoted to different positions, making banking easier for you
by solving problems and finding better ways of doing things.

* READ THE FINE PRINT
We will never lie to you. You know the world changes every day; and things
like hours, rates, fees, phone numbers and locations change over time. We
plan on CHROME Federal Credit Union being around 100 years from now,
so who knows- maybe we’ll be doing flying car loans. Point is, these items
are not changing as a result of our new name. If they do change, we’ll let
you know right away via email, so make sure we have yours.
