WHATS AND WAYS OF SKILL­ RELATED FITNESS • SKILL RELATED FITNESS = The ability to perform during games and sports; also called performance fitness. Skill related fitness has six components. AGILITY REACTION TIME BALANCE SKILL RELATED FITNESS
POWER COORDINATION SPEED AGILITY • The ability to change and control the direction and position of your body while maintaining a constant, rapid motion.
BALANCE • THE ABILITY TO CONTROL OR STABILIZE YOUR EQUILIBRIUM WHILE MOVING OR STAYING STILL.
COORDINATION • The ability to use your eyes and ears to determine and direct the smooth movement of your body. Speed, reaction time, and agility may influence level of coordination.
SPEED • The ability to move your body or parts of your body swiftly.
POWER • The ability to move your body parts swiftly while at the same time applying the maximum force of your muscles.
REACTION TIME • The ability to react or respond quickly to what you hear, see, or feel.
FACTORS THAT CAN INFLUENCE SKILL RELATED PERFORMANCE • Pick your parents well ­ Heredity is a major factor. • Practice, Practice, Practice ­ Agility, coordination, power, and balance can be improved through practice.

WHATS AND WHYS OF HEALTH RELATED FITNESS • HEALTH RELATED FITNESS = Physical fitness primarily associated with disease prevention and functional health. Health related fitness has five components: CARDIO FITNESS BODY COMPOSITION FLEXABILITY HEALTH RELATED FITNESS
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE MUSCULAR STRENGTH CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS • The ability to work continuously for extended periods of time.
FLEXABILITY • The range of motion that your joints have during movement.
MUSCULAR STRENGTH • The maximal force that you can exert when you contract your muscles. Energy cost = the amount of energy required for you to perform different physical activities or exercises.
MUSCUALR ENDURANCE • The ability to contract your muscles several times without excessive fatigue.
BODY COMPOSITION • The ratio of water, bone, muscle, and fat in the body. Ø Examples ­ BMI ­ Skin Fold Test
IMPROVING YOUR PERSONAL FITNESS LEVEL • Participate in life long sports. Ø Examples ­ Swimming ­ Cycling ­ Jogging ­ Weight training BELIEVE IT OR NOT The typical young adult (14­17) is about 5 to 7 pounds heavier today than the typical young adult.
