1 package (1/4 oz.) yeast
1 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees)
2 teaspoons honey OR sugar
2 2/3 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In a small bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and honey (or sugar). Let sit for 5 minutes.
In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt.
Stir yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
Dredge your hands in flour to give them a light coating, then knead dough on a lightly
floured surface until it is the consistency of clay by pushing, folding, and pulling it.
6. Break off a piece of dough about the size of a large gumball and roll it into a rope about
6 inches long. Twist the rope into a pretzel or rod shape and place on a baking sheet
that has been lightly sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Repeat to make a total of 24
pretzels (# will depend upon the size you make).
7. Sprinkle lightly with coarse kosher salt if desired.
8. Bake 10 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Makes 24 pretzels.
Alternative Soft Pretzel Recipe
Ingredients:
2 – 16 oz. loaves of frozen bread dough, thawed
1 egg white, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon water

Separate thawed bread dough into 24 - 1 ½” balls.
Roll each ball into a rope 14 ½” long.
Shape your pretzels (pretzel shapes, breadsticks, twists, hearts, letters).
Place pretzels one inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Let stand 20 minutes.
Combine egg white & water; brush over pretzels. Sprinkle with coarse salt.*
Place a shallow pan containing 1” of boiling water on bottom rack of oven; bake pretzels
on center rack of oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
*May substitute a sugar & cinnamon mixture for sweet pretzels.
