Tom Cassels, partner, Linklaters
Tom practices general commercial litigation specialising in competition litigation and
public law. Tom has advised household name clients on a number of high profile
investigations as well as preparing senior management for appearance at CMA
hearings, public inquiries and select committee hearings. Tom is ranked in leading
legal directories such as Chambers UK, Chambers Europe, Chambers Global and
The Legal 500. He has won industry awards from the Lawyer and Legal Business
and was twice included in The Lawyer “Hot 100”. Prior to joining Linklaters, Tom was
chair of Baker & McKenzie LLP‟s global disputes practice.
Marie Demetriou QC, barrister, Brick Court Chambers
Marie is recognised as a leading advocate in the fields of competition law, EU law,
admin and public law, and human rights. In 2015 she was appointed standing
counsel to the Competition and Markets Authority and represents the CMA in their
litigation before the courts, including most recently in the „pay for delay‟ appeal.
Marie also represents a wide range of commercial clients, other public bodies and
NGOs. She is currently instructed in several cartel damages claims before the
courts, including the iiyama claim arising from the Commission‟s CRT decision which
is pending before the Court of Appeal. In 2016, Marie was awarded EU and
Competition Law Silk of the Year by Legal 500 and was also one of three nominees
for Chambers & Partners Competition Law Silk of the Year.
Keith Jones, partner, Baker & McKenzie LLP and member, Competition
Section Committee
Keith is a UK and EU competition law specialist at Baker McKenzie. Keith advises on
all aspects of competition law, including merger control, dominance, restrictive
agreements and competition litigation. Keith has extensive experience before the UK
competition authorities (CMA, OFGEM, OFCOM, Competition Appeal Tribunal) and
High Court as well as the European Commission and the European Courts. Keith
recently worked on the CMA's market investigation in the energy sector. He is
currently acting on a number of follow-on, market investigation and merger cases.
Keith continues to be a trustee for China's MOFCOM in relation to a conditional
approval decision.
Frances Murphy, partner, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius UK LLP
Frances is managing partner of the London office and is head of the competition law
team in London. A noted leading practitioner, Chambers UK describes her as
“delivering outstanding behavioural advice” and Legal 500 describes her as “an elite
performer with formidable powers of analysis.” Frances represents clients in EU and
UK competition matters before the Competition and Markets Authority, the Financial
Conduct Authority, the Competition Authority Tribunal, the European Commission,
and the Luxembourg Courts. She defends competition investigations and disputes,
including stand-alone and follow on actions for damages. Frances is engaged in
claims against Visa and MasterCard for damages arising from arrangements for their
fees to merchants.
Meredith Pickford QC, barrister, Monckton Chambers
Meredith of Monckton Chambers is a leading barrister for competition and regulatory
matters. Consistently ranked as a leading individual in the legal directories, he is
described as “outstanding” and “one of the cleverest at the bar”. Meredith has
participated in many of the biggest competition cases of recent years from patent
wars through pay TV battles to follow-on damages actions. Clients include Google,
Samsung, Sky, Vodafone, Everything Everywhere, Three, TalkTalk, Virgin Atlantic,
Korean Air, easyJet, National Grid, Scottish Power, Welsh Water, Morrisons and
Intercontinental Hotels.
