JA of Northern California seeks an experienced and successful grant writer to coordinate the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to third-party entities. The position reports to JA’s Director, Grants & Stewardship. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing, computer (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management skills. Candidate must be highly organized, efficient, able to implement systems and follow-up processes, capable of working under pressure, use independent judgement, and produce quality work output within tight time constraints. Previous experience should demonstrate a proven track record in securing funds (award rate), comprehensive knowledge of research (funding prospects / pipeline), and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for specific programs and/or regions (alignment / fit). Primary Responsibilities include: Research, identify, develop, and respond to corporate and private grant opportunities in the areas of youth development, education, financial literacy, workforce readiness, social and economic development programs for youth, youth leadership, and entrepreneurism Review and recommend application strategies and approaches for corporate and private RFP solicitations Liaison with program staff as needed to develop funding approach / grant plan - Conduct needs assessment through phone conversations and email; gather information from JA staff to facilitate concept of a project or program for which funding is sought Compile, write, and edit successful grant applications that exhibit strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling Prepare and submit corporate and private letters of inquiry, proposals, and grant requests - to include drafting creative, engaging cases for support incorporating relevant, current research for organization operating funds and specific programs and projects EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelors degree or equivalent required; masters preferred Four or more years work experience in corporate and private grant writing with demonstrated success Must be a quick learner, self-directed, and committed to youth development, financial literacy and workforce readiness education Computer proficiency – fully competent in Word, Excel, PowerPoint Excellent organizational skills and work habits Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and as a member of a remote team TO APPLY: Send cover letter, resume, and writing sample to Heather Small at [email protected] This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.
