Every Week / Volume 13 Issue 8 Week Ending: 11th November What an amazing and busy week we have had! On Monday I spoke in assembly about the American election. Obviously, whilst we never promote any particular political party, I thought it important that the children understand such a major event. I was delighted to hear the children’s mature and meaningful opinions and it showed me how our school vision is truly impacting on their breadth and depth of understanding. The photos on the back of today’s edition show how we continue to promote ‘ Inspiring Dreams’ through high quality educational opportunities. I wonder if our Lego Mindstorms event has inspired any Year 5 children to be engineers of the future? On Wednesday evening the choir performed at the City Sharing Concert. I felt extremely proud to see Cotteridge Girls and Boys, so smart and confident, singing with beaming smiles on their faces. Next week, school will be very quiet as 74 children are on the school residential trip to Wales. Mrs. Leonard has got my hat and gloves ready! Cotteridge truly is a brilliant place to work and learn, and I would like to thank all children, parents and staff for the collaborative and caring spirit that makes us who we are. Enjoy a lovely weekend. Mr. Leonard. 6G Class Assembly This week 6G had their class assembly, based on Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. The children showed just how much they had learnt about this explorer and the impact that he had on our world. They should be very proud of themselves as they were confident, professional and their singing was beautiful! Remember to ponder over the P4C question 6G left you with – can you really discover something that somebody already knows exists? Children in Need: Next Friday is Children In Need Day. For children who are in school, this will be a non uniform day with this year’s theme being SPOTS! We shall raise funds by asking for donations of no less than 50p for the privilege of dressing in spotty non uniform. P4C Question of the week Is a human life more valuable than a rat’s? We were proud to be the only primary school invited to participate in this event. Our choir performed two songs to family, friends and secondary schools. Lego Mindstorm Robot Day In Year 5, we received a thrilling visit from humanoid robot NAO, who communicated and responded to us, as well as performing some cool dance moves! During the Mindstorm session, children were challenged to program and navigate a ‘Mars Rover’ vehicle through a series of problem solving challenges. Year 5 worked superbly in their teams and we look forward to seeing what the future holds! Nursery Parent Rhyme Workshop An exciting week in Nursery! A big thank you to all parents, and grandparents who attended our workshop. Children and adults were very busy making a variety of puppets to support World Rhyme Week. Adults were quizzed about their own knowledge of rhymes and informed of their importance in their child’s learning. Year 5 Hockey Tournament Some of our Year 5 children participated in a inter-schools Hockey tournament at Hollywood Primary School, finishing 2nd in our pool and narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Great job! Chester Roman Experience Year 4 marched over to the city of Chester to gain a deeper understanding of how the Romans lived. We marched through the streets of Chester alongside a roman soldier, visited an amphitheatre where we witnessed a roman gladiator fight and even had the chance to uncover some Roman artefacts in the museum! Year 4 were a credit to the school showing great enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for learning as much as possible about this fascinating era of ancient history.
