On Spirit, there’s no such thing as a “free” bag (except for one personal item). This is because the added weight requires more gas for the plane. The good news is you pay for additional bags only if you need them, which means you save money by not paying for other people’s stuff. We call that Frill Control™, and it’s what keeps our Bare Fares™ ultra-low. One personal item is included in the Bare Fare. We’re talking something like a small backpack – one that can fit entirely in the smaller sizer box, including handles and wheels (16″ x 14″ x 12″ for travel through March 31st, 2016, and for travel after March 31st, 2016 - 17” x 13” x 8”). Another personal item or anything larger like a standard carry-on or checked bag is a little extra. Included with every Bare Fare™ Only 1 per seat purchased. Must fit entirely in the smaller sizer box (including handles and wheels). 16″ x 14″ x 12″ for travel through 3/31/2016 17” x 13” x 8” for travel after 3/31/2016 You can check out bag prices using the Bag-O-Tron at Spirit.com/Bags for your trip! Just put in your route and dates of travel and you’ll get a chart letting you know how much each type of bag is for your trip. You’ll always save the most by buying your bags early at Spirit.com. Remember, $9 Fare Club pricing does not apply to group travel. Additional VAT (value added tax) may apply. A maximum of five (5) bags may be checked per customer, based on availability and destination. Some international destinations may have additional restrictions in place during your travel period. All listed prices are each way. Visit Spirit.com/Options for the latest pricing and full information. We fly light to help save you money. Golf equipment is considered one golf bag with up to 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls, and one pair of golf shoes. You can also bring a pull cart if it is attached to the golf bag. We recommend a hard-sided carrier to protect your clubs from shifting during the flight. Don’t worry if your sticks are a little big – we waive oversize charges on golf equipment. However, please be mindful that golf equipment over 40 pounds (18.1 kg) is considered overweight and costs more, so save by keeping your bag light. You can bring one non-motorized bicycle with a single seat on your trip as checked baggage for an additional charge. Make sure you deflate your bicycle tires for the flight to prevent damage. For their protection, bicycles must be encased in cardboard or a hard-sided bike container for travel. You can bring your surfboard or other surfing equipment (wakeboards, boogie boards, body boards) as checked baggage on your next trip for an additional charge. If you are bringing a surfboard, make sure to remove or protect your surfboard keels and/or skegs to prevent damage to it and other checked baggage. To save you more, you can put up to two (2) similar items in a case together for the same price. Don’t worry – overweight and oversize fees do not apply to surf equipment. Boxes and plastic containers (such as Rubbermaid) are accepted on both domestic and international flights as checked bags with certain restrictions. Visit Spirit.com for more information.
