Each bangle takes approximately 9 1/2” of wire to create – keep in mind this will vary based on your wrist size. Bead Wire by Bead Smith is great when working on new techniques as well as creating jewelry to wear as it is composed of a copper core and plated with silver therefore you will be able to add it to an aging solution and it will darken right up. If you are new to working with wire it is a good idea to have this on hand when creating your first bangles as you do not want to mar or damage your sterling wire. While you are more than welcome to purchase Sterling Wire BeadSmith Will work great as well, We will be using this wire to not only string or charms but create head pins. O&E offers a 75-foot spool of copper wire for $10. This is the best ribbon that I have found for dyeing as it takes the color perfectly. Silk Ribbon (1” wide) WWW.DHARMATRADING.COM If you do not wish to dye your own ribbon there is a wide variety of Etsy Shops that offer lovely ribbon Jacquard Acid Fabric Dye ICE Resin HTTP://WWW.DHARMATRADING.COM/HTML/ENG/1344AA.SHTML Rosary Chain WWW.OBJECTSANDELEMENTS.COM WWW.OBJECTSANDELEMENTS.COM WWW.RIOGRANDE.COM WWW.FIREMOUNTAINGEMS.COM WWW.BEADSFACTORY.COM Gilding the Lily – Located in Fullerton California (if this is close to you I strongly suggest you visit as Nancy stocks the most amazing treasures and trinkets as well as wonderful metal aging solution). I prefer Jacquard Acid dyes to others, as household vinegar is the acid used therefore it is low impact. Another reason I find it quite favorable is it comes in a powder form therefore I can mix my own colors if I so desire. For the amount of charms we will be creating the 1 ounce ICE Resin Size is perfect (this is the side by side plunger). Also, I will only be demonstrating how to use ICE Resin Ice Chips in this class. While we will be learning how to make our own rosary chain feel free to purchase pre-made chain as well. An assortment of these is needed from 3mm – 5mm we will be using them to attach our beads and baubles. I will also be showing you how to create these in a very simple manner with a dowel. I prefer potato pearls as they are the most versatile, When purchasing your pearls look for colors that appeal to you. All pearls should be drilled through half drilled pearls will not be shown in this class. An array of crystals is always nice to have on hand. Think about the palettes you would like to use and gather your crystals based on those ideas. Firing Brick or Annealing Pot WWW.RIOGRANDE.COM WWW.FIREMOUNTAINGEMS.COM WWW.RIOGRANDE.COM WWW.FIREMOUNTAINGEMS.COM WWW.OBJECTSANDELEMENTS.COM This handy little torch works with butane. COM TOOLS Butane Torch (kitchen firing torch) Bench Block or Anvil A square non-stick pan is handy to place your firing brick into. We will fill this with water and immediately place or hot head pins into it. We will use this when dying our ribbon. Please note if you are using a stockpot it will not be usable for anything other than dyeing. Used for stirring when we are dyeing our ribbon. Make sure you purchase a box of these, as you will go through them fast. This is the all around hammer of choice for me. The smooth side of the hammer is used to flatten or splay wire or sheet metal when used with a bench block while the round or peen side is used to add indentations and markings. A must have when hammering metal. When shopping punches that are meant to create a shape on the metal think about what kind of pattern you can create with it. A good pair of pliers is a necessity however if you are unsure how committed you might be in the future to jewelry making start with a mid range price point. A good pair of flush cutters is undeniably the key to creating pieces with ease. Flat nose pliers become a little lie a third hand at times. Make sure the pair you purchase is free of any teeth. A set of needle files is handy as it includes a variety of files to get into curves etc. for our purposes you will be using one file. Check your local hardware store as well if you are not wishing to invest a lot. You will need a mandrel that measures 21/2” x 23/4” to 11/2” x 13/4 if you do not want to commit to this you can use a rolling pin, cup or dowel just make sure the largest point is not smaller than the desired size of your bangle. By and large liver of sulfur is the most talked about aging product on the market. However, that said I adore the aging solution Nancy has at Gilding the Lily I believe you will have to call her to order this Plastic Container for Aging OPTIONAL TOOLS Jeweler’s Saw (you will need #2 blades and a bench pin as well) Soldering Iron Wal-Mart, target etc. you will want the solution for silver that turns it black/brown. We will place our aging solution into a container….make sure it has a lid as you can use it more than once. ALL OF THE TOOLS LISTED BELOW WILL BE DISCUSSED AND DEMONSTRATED HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO COMPLETE YOUR PIECES WWW.OBJECTSANDELEMENTS.COM WWW.RIOGRANDE.COM WWW.FIREMOUNTAINGEMS.COM WWW.CONNIEFOX.COM WWW.OBJECTSANDELEMENTS.COM WWW.RIOGRANDE.COM WWW.FIREMOUNTAINGEMS.COM WWW.CONNIEFOX.COM WWW.VOLCANOARTS.COM A must have tool that is used to cut sheet metal as well as wire. Because you are controlling the saw it produces a clean cut. I will be showing you how to create your own aged looking chain.
