Terms of Use for International Connections Academy Transfer Credits International Connections Academy takes educating students very seriously. We have developed a world-class, accredited online program, with outstanding teachers, award-winning curriculum, and a powerful but user-friendly education management system. We therefore require that all schools and students choosing to use the International Connections Academy transcript as a representation of student achievement agree to adhere to our academic, course, and student requirements as outlined below. Academic Requirements • • • • • • • Attendance: Attendance means students are completing their coursework at a pace that allows them to master the material in the time allotted for the course. The virtual nature of the school does not alter the expectation that students will complete lessons, assessments, and other work assigned by teachers, and will do so in a timely manner. Pacing – students must actively participate in the course consistently through the duration of the semester/session, completing lessons, assessments, and assignments at least several days per week, though daily during the school week is preferred. The flexibility of virtual courses does not alter the expectation that students will be regularly engaged in the course – though time of day, location, or other factors may vary. Student athletes hoping for NCAA eligible coursework should be aware that taking more than a couple of consecutive weekdays off from completing coursework during the semester may jeopardize their NCAA eligibility status. Course Selection and Instruction - All courses must be taught by Connections Education teachers using the Connections Education Curriculum and delivered via Connexus. Completion Rate - While students are expected to complete 100% of course materials, teachers may adjust no more than 20% of each course to meet individual student needs. As appropriate students may be granted an extension of up to two weeks to finish course work. Incomplete assignments will be issued a zero, which will affect the student’s final score for that course. Adjustments of Lessons or Assessments- No more than 20% of the total lessons and assessments for a course may be adjusted. Students following NCAA eligibility standards will generally have zero skipped lessons or dropped assessments and must complete 100% of the course. However, even for NCAA students, adjustments may be made at the course level if the adjustment is done so for all students in the section, and the academic rigor and integrity of the course are maintained. Pass Rate - Students must finish each course with an overall score of at least 60% to receive credit for the course. Late Entry - Students who begin courses after the start date will work with each teacher to assess the correct starting point for their course in relationship to their academic aptitude. • Grading Scale- All offered courses (Grades k-12) will follow this grading scale: A+ 98-100 o A 92-97 A- 90-91 B+ 88-89 B 82-87 B- 80-81 C+ 78-79 C 72-77 C- 70-71 D+ 68-69 D 62-67 D- 60-61 F 0-59 For courses taken as Pass/Fail, an overall average of 60% and above earns the designation of Pass and an overall percentage of 59% and below the designation of Fail. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Academic Engagement and Commitment: The student’s role in International Connections Academy is to learn to the best of his or her abilities, guided and supported by iNaCA’s teachers. iNaCA expects all students to take age-appropriate individual responsibility for their own learning: apply themselves to their studies in a focused and serious manner, work hard, be engaged in the lessons and activities, ask questions, explore their personal interests, improve areas of academic weakness, and capitalize on strengths—and at all times complete their own work and upholding the principles of the International Connections Academy honor code. Ongoing Academically Focused Contact with Teachers: Students are required to maintain regular contact with their teachers and respond to teacher messages in a timely manner. Students have a variety of methods for engaging with their teachers and are expected to use a combination of these to ensure regular, ongoing, academically-focused contact is an integral part of their participation in iNaCA courses. Contact options include WebMail, Message and Discussion boards, telephone, and LiveLesson session. Students are required to have an academically focused discussion with their teacher(s), at minimum as the student completes approximately 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the course content (lessons and assessments) as documented in the grade book. Teachers will use these ‘quarterly’ contacts, in conjunction with the grade book and CBAs, to assess the student’s pacing and ensure that the student is not moving too quickly or too slowly through the course work, and to ensure that the student demonstrates a level of mastery of the course material that correlates with the student’s grade in the Grade Book. While teachers are responsible for proactively contacting students at least quarterly, students must be available for those required contacts. Compliance with all iNaCA policies: International Connections Academy expects that students and schools who choose iNaCA are fully committed to student academic success and the highest standards of academic integrity. Students enrolled in iNaCA courses must therefore agree to abide by the policies set forth in the International Connections Academy Handbook for Part Time students. Further, iNaCA considers cheating, plagiarizing, or other acts of academic dishonesty to be directly counter to the principles of academic excellence and harm most those students who engage in such activities—they cheat themselves of the opportunity to fully develop their intellectual abilities. Students who breach the International Connections Academy Honor Code, the principles of academic integrity, or any of the policies in the Handbook, will be subject to disciplinary action as described in the Handbook. iNaCA Transcript Features As permission is being requested to use the iNaCA transcript, the information below outlines how information appears on the transcript.
