AP Human Geography (1.0 Social Studies Credit) The purpose of the AP Human Geography course is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice. The following are requirements for success in this course: I. Attendance/Tardiness/Discipline: The Castle Keys will be followed and enforced. II. Responsibility: You are responsible for any and all work missed due to excused absences. Work missed due to unexcused absences will receive an automatic zero. Late work will be penalized. No late work in a unit of study is accepted after the unit assessment. III. Preparation: Completion of homework and readings is essential. Being prepared gives you the opportunity to succeed on tests and quizzes. Students should expect nightly reading assignments with weekly reading quizzes. Not being prepared leads to poor performance and missing assignments. IV. Organization: You will be responsible for keeping all materials in a three ring binder. We suggest you dived the binder according to the units of study. V. Participation: You are expected to participate in discussions and group work, answer when called upon and be attentive to material being presented. VI. Respect: Respect the opinions and input of your classmates, their goals and the goals of the teacher. Respect yourself by taking ownership of the things you produce, the knowledge you acquire and the skills you learn. VII. Honesty: The Castle Keys Academic Honesty Policy is followed. Read it. Know it. VIII. Level Changes: See Castle Keys regarding level change policy. IX. Help: Check with your teacher. Rubenstein Publisher: Prentice Hall Skills: Reading, writing, critical thinking and application of knowledge from one region to the next will be taught throughout the course.
