Rockhopper
All penguins are alike in a few ways.
First, they are birds. They can’t fly,
though! Also, all wild penguins live
below the equator. That’s the
imaginary line around the middle of
the earth. The dotted areas on the
map (left) show where penguins live.

What They Look Like: Rockhoppers
Rockhopper
have a yellow crest, or bunch of
feathers, on their heads.
Habitat: They live on islands with tall
grasses and rocky cliffs.

rocks, just like their name says.

What They Look Like: Emperors have a black head

Habitat: They live on the Antarctic ice and in the
waters around Antarctica.
Fun Fact: These are the biggest penguins. They are
about as tall as a 6-year-old child.
In winter, the female emperor penguin lays one
egg. The male takes care of the egg. He balances it
on the tops of his feet for about two months, until
the egg hatches.
