The general requirements for smoking and non-smoking areas are:
A
No public rooms divided in theory between smoking and non-smoking. (either the entire area smoking or non-smoking) unless a dedicated air
extraction device is used in a smoking area, or where the room can be divided by a wide space or a partial barrier. The exception is a gaming
room (Casino) - thereby avoiding 'passive smoking' claims by non smokers in chairs immediately adjacent to smokers.
B
No smoking on any cabin balconies or any balcony area where cigarettes could be thrown overboard.
C
No smoking in any food areas (restaurants, cafeterias, mess rooms, or bars where substantial meals are served such as ice cream bars,
chocolate bars etc.). Bars that serve bar snacks (chips, nuts etc) are not classified as food areas.
D
No smoking in passenger or crew cabins according to classification rules of the ship. Smoking is actively discouraged in passenger cabins, and
not permitted in cabins of ship personnel. (Advisory signs provided to all classes and categories of cabins)
E
No smoking in corridors, elevator or stairway foyers or passageways, including waiting areas, information or sales areas where these areas must
also be used by non-smokers.
F
No smoking in 'temporary assembly areas' where these areas must also be used by non smokers at the instruction of the ship. (Waiting areas
for departure of shore excursions, tenders etc.).
G
No smoking in public toilets, public bathrooms.
H
No smoking in medical centres, Childcare areas, health centres, or recovery areas.
Open decks and bars
Smoking on open areas is discretionary where there is no physical fire danger that could be caused by back-draught, or where cigarette smoke

could compromise the comfort of non-smokers.

Smoking at indoor bars is permitted except where a bar area must be transited by non-smokers, or where a bar is completely open into a
corridor or non-smoking area.
Signs

Signs to indicate smoking and non-smoking areas are to be simple and non-aggressive. Small 'non smoking' signs on every table are strongly
discouraged. Instead, one large (A4) size sign at the entrance to each designated room has proved to be adequate and more 'user friendly'.
Ashtrays are not to be placed at tables in non-smoking areas. The A4 signs in English & Italian only with International Logo) standardized
(Company supply, and may be reprinted on board. They are to be placed in stands, and are to read as follows:
