Greetings from Mrs. Noga, Mrs. Parente, Mrs. Jancewicz and Mrs. Antonius Week of January 17, 2017 4th Grade Language Arts: ● Last week the students studied subject-verb agreement and started helping verbs. ● This week we will take a “tiz” over verb concepts learned thus far, and then we’ll continue differentiating between helping and linking verbs with several activities. ● Verb “tiz” on Wednesday; NO SIMPLE SOLUTIONS THIS WEEK Reading: TUTORING on Monday for 4th grade ● Last week we started our historical book clubs with vocabulary and inferencing activities. ● This week we will focus on using text evidence to support our answers. ● The second quarter and AR ends on Jan. 20th. ● Vocab Unit 7 this week with a test on Fri., Jan. 20th. ● If you would like to place a Scholastic Book order I am putting one in for Fri., Jan. 27th. At https://clubs.scholastic.com/ my code NF7LC Math: Tutoring in room 205 until 3:00 on Tuesdays, 1/17 and 1/31. ● Last week the students reviewed how to make equivalent fractions and how to compare fractions. ● This week the students will be learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. ● STAR MATH: Wednesday, 1/18/17. Science: ● Last week we wrapped up scientific measurement. ● This week we will have a test over scientific measurement on Wed., Jan. 18th and then complete our monthly STEM challenge, Caine’s Arcade. ● Then we will move on to health for the third quarter. Social Studies: ● Last week the students studied the frontier wars and Ohio’s statehood. ● This week we will discuss Tecumseh and the War of 1812. ● Test on Chapter 5 on Friday, Jan. 20th Religion: ● Last week students presented their beatitude projects, and learned how the sacraments help them to live a holy life. ● This week, students will have a quiz over the sacraments on Thursday, January 19th. 5th Grade ELA: Tutoring in Room 206 until 3:00 on Tuesday ● ● ● ● ● Last week students wrote a procedural essay and began presenting them. This week, students will finish presenting in class and will revise and edit their procedural essays. Essays are due Wednesday 1/17. They will examine human impact on the earth in the story “Everglades Forever”. Star Reading: Thursday 1/19 Vocabulary Workshop Unit 7 Test on Friday AR- due on January 20th Scholastic Book Orders are due Friday, Jan. 27th. https://orders.scholastic.com/P7XG2 Math: Tutoring in room 205 until 3:00 on Tuesdays, 1/10 and 1/24 • • • Last week the students learned how to simplify fractions and estimate addition and subtraction of fractions. This week the students will be learning how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. STAR MATH: Wednesday, 1/18/17. Science: ● ● ● Last week wrapped up scientific measurement. Social Studies: ● ● ● Last week we finished up the Aztec culture and learned about the Inca people. This week we’ll finish comparing the three cultures and take a test. Test on Thursday on the Maya, Aztec and Inca civilizations. Religion: ● ● Last week the students learned about making good choices. This week the students will be learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Important Notes: ● ● ● ● ● ● REMINDER: Birthday invitations may not be distributed at school. Please check ProgressBook for daily homework and updates. Dress Code: Please follow the dress code guidelines for gym uniforms. Skirts and gym shorts must be knee length. Supplies: All students in grades 4 & 5 should have earbuds or headphones for class. Absent/Late Work: Students will need to check ProgressBook and ask the teacher for absent/late classwork and homework. Students will need to turn in absent/late classwork and homework to the teacher. The teacher will NOT be asking for it. Snacks/ Allergies: Students may bring a HEALTHY morning snack that is NUT-FREE.
