The Birth
The house of Alyssa Ashley was born in the U.S.A during the fabulous nineteen sixty’s,
created out of the fantasy of a contemporary artist, who besides expressing his talent
in painting (he is considered a master of the contemporary art) devoted much time
and energy to his passion for perfumes. The bottles and packaging he designed can in
themselves be considered as an expression of modern art.
ALYSSA was the name of his youngest daughter and Ashley her nick name because of
her perfectly clear blond hair, and so was born ALYSSA ASHLEY. A new division of the
Perfume Company was opened, with a brief to develop innovative and technically
advanced perfumes very different from the ones in fashion at that time, and aimed
specifically at the young.
The inspiration of the Alyssa Ashley brand has led the fashion of fragrances for over
forty years and gets stronger every day, constantly developing trendy new
products which are blended from only the finest ingredients.

What is Musk?
In the world of perfumery MUSK is a magical word. It is an animal scent, warm, sweet and extremely long lasting. The essence
was originally extracted from a gland of the musk deer Moschus Moschiferus from Tibet, China and Nepal. This smell has a sexual
attraction to females and this is the reason why it is considered an erotic perfume. Nowadays, thankfully, the animal extract has
been replaced with synthetic products, in order to avoid the extinction of this poor deer, and the results in perfumery are as good
if not better than the original fragrance. However the origins of Musk are still surrounded by many myths and legends.
Oriental medicine in China, India, Arabia and Japan ascribes various properties to Natural Musk amongst which the aphrodisiac
properties are the most emphasised in the perfumery sector. The legend of the Musk origin lies in Indian mythology. The demon
Pulaka, after enduring a long and strict punishment in the aspect of an antelope, obtained as a reward from Shiva - the capacity to
emanate a very intense perfume. From that moment on Pulaka, thanks to his wonderful perfume, began to seduce the god’s
women, thus breaking religious and moral rules. As a result of this, Shiva ordered Pulaka to abandon his demonic body, but he
gave him permission to keep the perfume generated from his limbs, “MUSK”. This name Musk, which comes from the Sanskrit
“mrgamada”, means, “Antelope love secretion”.
It is said that the Empress Josephine, Napoleon’s wife, passionately adored perfumes, especially Musk, which she used lavishly to
seduce her husband and secure his devotion, in spite of Napoleon’s frequent protests. She belonged to a group of stylish young
men and women called “Les Muscadins” as a result of their craze for musk.
At the end of the nineteen sixty’s, the wind of change blows across the world, as young people rise against all of the previous
generations rules. Music changes, habits change, fashion changes. The young generation, starting from the U.S.A and England,
embrace oriental philosophies looking for a simpler more natural life style, less chaotic and stressed than that of western
civilisation. This new style of living is also reflected in perfume. Young people no longer want the sophisticated fragrances worn
by their parents, but embrace the simple ones whose roots lie in the oriental culture. The hippie’s and the flower children buy the
fashionable essential oils, and in 1969 Alyssa Ashley launch their first product, Musk Oil by Alyssa Ashley. Musk Oil was presented
in a small heart shaped bottle, and over the years a complete line was developed including Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and a
collection of body care products.
Today Musk by Alyssa Ashley is a market leading fragrance, and in many countries is considered a “CULT. PERFUME”.

The concept
In the mid 1990’s, one of the most interesting new trends in the perfume
industry is use of Vanilla as a predominant top note rather than just a base
note present in many classical fragrances. The Vanilla is a smell that
consumers already know and love, and associate it with childhood and hot
sunny days when things were simple. As we are starting a new century,
people are looking back with nostalgia to the real and simple values in life.
With this mind, we have decided to develop this “Vanilla trend” targeted to
attract new users and especially among the younger consumers.
For the packaging, we have kept the clean and the elegant theme of Musk
using the white printing combined with the yellow of VANILLA.
