Who hasn’t seen “John 3:16” on bumper stickers, T-shirts, and placards at sporting events? All Christians share this faith. I just wish everyone knew and believed the next verse – John 3:17 – as well: “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save it.” Although Jesus speaks of Himself here in the third person, these words come directly from His mouth. While Jesus clearly does not condemn anyone, and it never was His mission from God to condemn anyone, why is it so many of His disciples do? Learn from the Lord. “Fostering Stewardship as a Way of Life” Caring for and Sharing with Each Other “G I F T S:” Giving In Faith Through Stewardship Discover your God-given gifts and find a place in our community to give your gift back to God in gratitude and service. Lori of the USCCB Ad Hoc Committee for religious freedom, evangelizing not only saves souls, it also preserves religious freedom. When people’s minds and hearts have been opened to the truth and beauty of God’s love and the love of God has been poured into their hearts – then the natural endowment of religious freedom comes alive and people are more likely to defend religious freedom in society. As lawmakers move to revise the health care mandate, may they procure our religious freedom. Sunday Saint of the Day Saint Barnabas (d. 61) What we know of Barnabas is to be found in the New Testament. He was a Jew, born in Cyprus and named Joseph; he sold his property, gave the proceeds to the Apostles, who gave him the name Barnabas meaning “son of encouragement.” He lived in common with the earliest converts to Christianity in Jerusalem. He persuaded the community there to accept Paul as a disciple. Praise the Lord and Congratulations to these 3 men ordained to the Holy Priesthood Saturday May 20: Reverend Father Glen Dmytryszyn Reverend Father Eduar Gutiérrez Tovar Reverend Father Eric Zuniga We keep 4 men of our parish in prayer this weekend as they retreat at Holy Family Passionate Retreat Center in West Hartford. May you return to us “filled with the Holy Spirit.” “You weren’t made to fit in; you were made to stand out!” ► Wednesday is Flag Day. As we look at the flag of our country, let us always remember its true meaning, for a flag without meaning is only a piece of cloth. The red of our flag stands for valor and bravery like that of those who fought to protect our freedoms. White signifies purity and innocence, as that of our Founding Fathers’ intent to secure the rights of all. Blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice, as all are needed in any government to secure the blessings of God. And as our stars and stripes point to the stars of the heavens and the rays of the sun, let us never forget that our country must depend upon God’s blessing and protection. ► Pope Francis words on Piety: “Piety is not about being ‘hoiler than thou’. Being pious is not squeezing one’s eyes shut to the world and putting on a sweet little angel face. Piety is opening up one’s heart to God and one’s arms to embrace everyone as brothers and sisters. The gift of piety that the Holy Spirit gives us makes us meek; it makes us peaceful, patient and at peace with God in gentle service to others. Piety is recognizing our belonging to God, our deep bond with him, a relationship that gives meaning to our whole life and keeps us resolute, in communion with him, even during the most difficult and troubled moments in life. This personal bond with the Lord is not created out of obligation or force, it is a relationship lived from the heart, a friendship that changes our life and fills us with enthusiasm and joy, gratitude, praise and authentic worship of God. When the Holy Spirit helps us sense the presence of the Lord and all of his love for us, it warms our heart and drives us almost naturally to prayer and celebration. Once people experience the loving relationship of God as Father, it helps us pour out this love onto others and recognize them as brothers and sisters. Piety is about identity and belonging, that is why it renders people truly capable of being joyful with those who are happy; to cry with those who weep; to be near those who are alone or in distress; to correct those in error; to console the afflicted; to welcome and come to the aid of those in need.” Citing a verse from St Paul’s Letter to the Romans (8:14-15), the Pope said “the spirit of God is about kinship - a spirit of adoption, not a spirit of slavery to fall back on into fear. Let us ask the Lord that the gift of his Spirit overcome our fears and uncertainties, our restless and impatient spirit, too, and that it may make us joyous witnesses of God and his love.” The Pope asked that people pray they “could adore God in a genuine way, not forced or fake, and to be in service to others with gentleness and also a smile.” ► The Pastoral Planning Office has mailed to every parish 100 copies of the brochure entitled, “When a Pastor Leaves.” If we need more copies, we have to pay for them. ☺ Hopefully, you are all doing well enough with my reassignment so we won’t need to order more. ☺ Help yourself to one even if you’re fine with me leaving. We welcomed into the faith community through the waters of baptism on Sunday June 4, 2017 Leonardo James DelMonico Son of Jason & Marisa (Mastroianni) DelMonico Godson of Jason Mastroianni & Cyrstal Higgins Everyday Stewardship by Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS After years working for the Church, I can honestly say that even though I feel closer to God, I still cannot fully grasp all that is God. The complexity of God has been the source of many volumes by many writers and theologians. The crazy reality of growing in a relationship with God is that the more you get to know God, the more complex God becomes. But I think that is true of human relationships as well. I feel like I can really peg a person one way or another after only meeting him or her a few times, but my wife and children continue to perplex me. Getting to know someone means you begin to uncover the layers of personality, feeling, and emotion that make up each human being. For those who see God as only a force or a light, God is simply defined. But for those who seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ, the God we find in relationship has many layers as well. But that which we do know for certain about God comes to us primarily from the person of Jesus. He called us to a way of life by not only teaching us about how to live, but by showing us the example of his life. Our God is defined by generosity, sacrifice, compassion, and, of course, love. The more we incorporate these characteristics into our own life, the more we bear witness to the true nature of God. Then others can see a God that is a little less complex because they understand him through you and me. Our life will speak more than all the volumes written by all the theologians. © Liturgical Publications 2017 Bocce League Standing Teams Team 2 Diamond ♦ Team 1 Heart ♥ Team 3 Club ♣ Team 4 Spade ♠ Wins 4 4 3 0 Losses 2 2 3 6 PCT 667% 667% 500% 0% Team 1 ♥ Hearts ♥ Tony Montefusco Pat Wiesniak Virginia Rossi Mike Paskiewicz Gloria Zunski Woody DeGeorge Linda Vignola Team 2 ♦ Diamonds ♦ Carmella Correia Fred Cusello Pat Podgorski Ed Jachimowski Joan Kayser Dee DiMauro Gay Johnston Team 3 ♣ Clubs ♣ Shirley Brennan Marianne Girard Fran Rossi Roger Brochu Cindy Jachimowski Jim Ethridge Mike Vignola Team 4 ♠ Spades ♠ Barbara Montefusco Dot Kisson Irene Blythe Alice Martini Steve Wiesniak Irene DeGeorge Betty Yankowski
