Guide for adhering common
types of insulation
The following is intended as guide to selecting the correct adhesive for adhering insulation to ductwork. Bostik are happy to specify the
fixing system to be used for a particular specification.
1. Ensure that the surface to be adhered to is flat, smooth, clean and offers a dry surface. THIS IS CRITICAL.
2. If the surfaces are contaminated then it is important to clean off the surface and dry before application of any adhesive system.
3. The adhesive to be chosen depends on several items but key is the weight/density of the insulation and the finished surface on
the insulation and substrate.
Foil Faced INSULATION
Substrates: Foil Faced Insulation – Aluminium
• If density is low 80kg/m3 then Simson Synthetic Polymer
Adhesive ISR 70-03 should be considered.
• If density is high then use perforated hangers with Simson
Synthetic Polymer Adhesive ISR 70-03 (also consideration
for using Simson Prep M).
Substrates: Foil Faced Insulation – Concrete
• Use Idenden Insulation Hanger Adhesive 10-253 in conjunction
with perforated hangers.
• If due to environmental issues a solvent based adhesive is unsuitable use Simson Synthetic Polymer Adhesive ISR 70-03 (high density over 80kgm3) or Idenden Water Based Structural
Adhesive 10-188 (low density low below 80kg/m3).
RIGID FOAM INSULATION
Substrates: Rigid Foam (EPS) – Aluminium
• If density is low below 80kg/m3 then use Idenden General
Purpose Adhesive 10-88.
• If density is high or due to environmental issues a solvent
based adhesive is unsuitable then use Simson Synthetic
Polymer Adhesive ISR 70-03.
Substrates: Foil Faced Insulation – Galvanised Steel
• If density is low below 80kg/m3 then consider Idenden
General Purpose Adhesive 10-88 or Idenden Self Adhesive
Insulation Hangers.
• If due to environmental issues a solvent based adhesive is unsuitable use Simson Synthetic Polymer Adhesive ISR 70-03.
• If density is high then use perforated hangers with Idenden
Insulation Hanger Adhesive 10-253.
Substrate: Rigid Foam (e.g. EPS) – Galvanised Steel
• If density is low below 80kg/m3 then consider Idenden
General Purpose Adhesive 10-88.
• If due to environmental issues a solvent based adhesive is unsuitable use Simson Synthetic Polymer Adhesive ISR 70-03.
• If density is high then use perforated hangers with Idenden
Insulation Hanger Adhesive 10-253
