Teaching and Learning This Week
This week the teaching and learning has been
based around the theme ‘What a wonderful
world…Africa’. The children have listened to
and discussed the story The Lion who Wanted
to Love, written and described animals that
inhabit Africa and Rolleston, created lion
masks and explored comparing the weights of
objects. They have also had the opportunity
to engage within other ‘What a wonderful
world…Africa themed learning activities.
Outdoor learning
There will be outdoor learning tomorrow
Friday 24th March 2017. We will be
visiting the Alderbrook site so please send
in appropriate clothing for this learning
opportunity.
Phase 3 and 4 Phonic Meeting
In response to a request by parents to
share more information on the
teaching of phonics at John of
Rolleston, we are to hold a meeting on
Tuesday 25th April at 6.15pm. This will
be in the hall on the Sherborne site.
The meeting will last 45 minutes. It
will focus on phase 3 and 4 phonics.
Please return the slip below to indicate
whether you are able to attend this
meeting.

Letters and sounds
Mrs Jones: the children have learnt the digraph oo as in book (short
sound) and the digraph ar as in farm. They have read words containing
these digraphs and written words containing these digraphs in isolation
and as part of a sentence. They have also focused on the tricky words
he, she, we, me and be.
Mrs Cheshire: They have revisited the digraph sh and in ship and
learnt the digraph th as in thin.They have read words containing these
digraphs and written words containing these digraph in isolation and as
part of a caption or sentence. They have also focused on the tricky
words he, she, we, me and be.
Miss Johnson: They have revisited the digraph sh and in ship and
learnt the digraph th as in thin.They have read words containing these
digraphs and written words containing these digraph in isolation and as
part of a caption or sentence. They have also focused on the tricky
words he, she, we, me and be.
Mrs Clover:The children have re-visited ck as in sock. The children
have practised reading and writing these sounds in simple words. They
have also pracised reading the tricky words the, and & I.
Mrs Cheshire and Miss Johnson:

This week the children have explored numbers
to 20. They have worked on the recognition of
these numbers and have sequenced them. The
children have practised counting objects up to
20 and found the numeral to match.
