Navel Oranges fruitlink.com.au Consumer Tips: Nutrition Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin C, beta-carotene, folate, fibre, and also contain other carotenoids that act as anti-oxidants. Buying & storing Consumers should look for bright-coloured oranges with a smooth skin that feel heavy for their size. Store in the fridge for two weeks. Preparation Cut unpeeled oranges into wedges and eat the flesh. Alternatively, peel and slice or cut into segments. Navel oranges get their name from the depression at their base. A juicy seedless variety, they are easy to peel and available almost all year round. Displaying and Storing Navels should be stacked neatly in rows with uniformity in your facing – neat rows look great! During autumn and winter you can get away with storing navels in dry bins, however as the season lengthens, it is a good idea to consider refrigeration. Place bagged (pre-packs are available) fruit next to the loose option and keep some of your citrus lines together – it creates a wonderful bright fruit section in your fruit displays. Cooking tip Combine orange segments, sliced red onion, avocado and watercress in a bowl. Chop and toss with toasted almonds and rosewater essence in a bowl. Serve with Greekstyle natural yoghurt. In Season Next week, all Fruitlink customers will be getting a copy of In Season - a consumer guide to what is in season. It is basically a market report for your customers – keeping them informed! We suggest you place these prominently in an A4 ticket frame in you produce department. You will receive these each month – roughly middle of the month as a timing guideline.
