I understand the cause and the effects of the French and Indian war....
The setting...
The English have colonies along the east coast of the New World...between the Atlantic Ocean and Appalachian mountains
The French have some colonies from Appalachian mountains to the Mississippi river drainage basin...(all the land that drains to the Mississippi)
They trade a lot with Indians

Different points of view...
English...coming to the colonies wanting to set up and new and better place to live. They want to be a shining example to the rest of the world on how to LIVE. They wanted to set up a New England that was better than the old England.
The English see the Indians as lazy savages who do not use the resources God gave them. If the Indians are not going to use the land correctly...take it from them.
English had growing colonies to take and use the resources of the land...YOU TAME THE LAND. YOU MAKE IT DO WHAT YOU WANT.

The French do not try to tame the land. They want to blend into the Indian villages and use the existing resources...
(renewable animal skins) They do not have to create as many colonies as the English because they can live with the Indians and become part of their culture.

The conflict... The French claimed the Mississippi River and all the smaller rivers and streams(tributaries) that drained into it. Robert La Salle 1680
The English claim the Ohio River Valley in 1753...River valleys are valuable because they have excellent soil due to deposits of soil that come from floods each year. The water from the river also makes transportation easy because you can float supplies on it.

George Washington's disastrous beginning... 1753 was sent to deliver a letter to the French in the Ohio River Valley... telling them to leave because the English owned the land.
The French laughed and refused to leave...
George was resent with 150 soldiers and was to build a fort near PITTSBURGHwhere Ohio,Allegheny, and Monongahela rivers come together. The French were already there in Fort Duquesne.
He attacked some French soldiers near Fort Duquesne and retreated to his Fort Necessity. ( He built the fort in a low spot and when it rained the water got into his gun powder supply. He had to surrender.)

These two battles led to the French and Indian War.
A battle over the Ohio River Valley were two " Mother countries were trying to protect their colonies and the raw products that came from those colonies.
