Uber is also available in Houston. Green Link Bus A free Downtown bus system. Seven buses operate Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., approximately 7-10 minutes apart. Click here for route maps and more information. B-Cycle Bike Share Program A big draw for visitors and locals alike looking for a quick, convenient ride. The first hour is free. The Metro System METRORail is a fast, convenient way to travel to downtown, midtown, the Museum District, Texas Medical Center, Moody Park and up to the Northline Transit Center / HCC. Shopping The Galleria With over 400 fine stores and restaurants, The Galleria is home to the best shopping in the city. The mall is anchored by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s. Only less than 8 miles from downtown, you don’t want to miss Houston’s answer to the Magnificent Mile and 5th Avenue. Though the mall is a short distance from downtown, traffic at peak rush hour times can add a considerable amount of time to your trip. Click here for more information. 3. Weather In February, average temperatures can range from the 30s-40s, with ice and blistery winds, or in the 60s-70s. Be prepared and be sure to check the weather before you arrive. *Note: Dress in Houston is fairly casual, with the exception of fine dining restaurants and opening nights of the performing arts. Be sure to check the websites if you choose to dine at upscale eateries. 4. Restaurants Houston is home to an impressive and extremely diverse culinary scene. Around Downtown Downtown is full of people and activity during business hours during the week, but there tends to be less traffic after 6 p.m. 6. Downtown Tunnel System The downtown Tunnel System is an underground, 6-mile interconnected series of restaurants, shops, and service retailers that serves the downtown community. Wells Fargo Plaza and McKinney Garage on Main offer direct access from the street to the tunnel. Besides those two entry points, patrons can access the tunnel from street-level stairs, escalators, and elevators located inside office buildings that are connected to the tunnel. The tunnel does have a wide variety of restaurants, which primarily include food court type options. Click here for a map of the tunnel. 7. Traffic In a city of 4 million people, rush hour traffic can become extremely congested. Avoid major highways during peak rush hour times, morning and evening. 8. Outdoors Houston has a variety of trails and parks that can satisfy anyone’s need to enjoy the outdoors. Buffalo Bayou Trail: Trail has direct access from downtown. Five mile loop to Shepherd Dr. will take you along the scenic Bayou. A walk back toward downtown offers a stunning view of the Houston skyline. Click here for more information. Hermann Park Located in one of the most picturesque areas of Houston, Hermann Park is between the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center and Rice University. The Houston Zoo is also located adjacent to the park. 9.
