WELCOME TO APRIL AT IKEA
The new products this April at IKEA bring fresh life
to the home. A big theme this month is the modern
Scandinavian style running through the package, with a
focus on textiles, particularly rugs. There are all kinds
of modern rugs in materials ranging from natural to
synthetic and coordinated with the other big piece of
news. For children, this month sees the launch of a large
selection of baby textiles and a new family of children’s
furniture and storage. Other highlights include three new
beds, party products from the Paper Shop, decorative
pictures and a range of innovative battery chargers and
rechargeable batteries. Enjoy!

TERNSLEV RUG
With more and more people leading their lives in cities
while longing for nature, designer Paulin Machado wanted
to create a rug that brings the outdoors in.
“It was that relationship between nature and the city
that inspired me to create the TERNSLEV rug. It’s made
from jute, a hardwearing natural material, and designed
to fit easily into all different kinds of lifestyles, seating
solutions or family constellations. There’s no right or
wrong – just twist, turn and play around with the rug
until you find the perfect spot in your home.”
The shape of TERNSLEV rug is unlike any other. It’s
designed to reflect the changes in the way we live and
furnish our rooms today. It works well with many different
sofa setups, for example a sofa with a chaise. Or if you
place a coffee table in front of the sofa, you can use one
of the extending parts to sit on, or turn it round to create
yet another shape.

TILST RUG
This month sees the launch of a selection of rugs made
with natural materials that bring us a little closer to
nature. The TILST rug is a small runner that’s handwoven
in sisal and jute making it durable and with natural colour
variations. Coloured bands break up the traditional
rectangular shape that forms a unique little rug for a
creative personal style.

SJÖSLEV RUG
The idea for the SJÖSLEV rug came about while the
designer Paulin Machado was in Bangladesh watching
skilled craftspeople hand spin white jute rugs. By
introducing a new material — black wool — she added
softness and created something totally unique without
changing the production technique. This has given the
SJÖSLEV rug its birch tree look. With a green band on
one edge, the small rug adds a personal touch and fits
well in connection to a table or loveseat.

SATTRUP RUG
Large enough to fit a three-seater sofa, the SATTRUP rug
is flatwoven in sisal and jute in a way that resembles
a ploughed field. The rug is hardwearing and durable
thanks to sisal, a natural fibre taken from the agave
plant. The natural fibres bring a feeling of nature into the
home, while also making the rug recyclable.

QUILT COVER & SHOWER CURTAIN
From working with brush strokes and paper clippings, the
DOFTKLINT quilt cover and shower curtain were given
their unique pattern by the designers Lisa Ullenius and
Sissi Edholm.
“Our inspiration came both from medieval painters and
modern graffiti. The result is a vibrant meeting between
the two styles, where we’ve kept the hand-painted touch
on the printed textiles. A self-confident splash of colour happy, just like we felt when designing it.”
The colourful pattern renews the home, but not only
that, the DOFTKLINT shower curtain is made of a chlorine
free plastic called PEVA (polyethylene vinyl acetate)
- a far better option than PVC from an environmental
perspective.

The Finnish designer Nina Aalto had just become the
owner of a black cat when she sat down to design the
MATTRAM textiles, so her inspiration was close by.
“The simple cat face creates a graphical, playful pattern
that I think will appeal to both children and adults.
Because it is timeless, retro and modern all at the same
time, it will fit into many homes. And if you like sewing,
you can use the fabric to create your own outfits and
accessories.”

FLISAT SERIES
For the playroom, the FLISAT is a new family of small
furniture and storage that’s designed to age together
with children from 3 to 12 years of age.
Made entirely of pine, a long-lasting material that ages
with grace, the FLISAT series breathes of the Swedish
roots of IKEA. Still the furniture is given a modern
expression with accent colours, and new production
techniques have made products that can withstand
everyday use and grow together with the child. For
example, the child’s desk can be tilted and adjusted to
three heights and when the doll house is outgrown, it can
be used as a wall storage solution to display favourite
treasures. Many other FLISAT products feature holders
for TROFAST storage boxes, for example the children’s
table and desk, so it’s easier to keep the room tidy once
the day of play is done.
