Tradition Four:

Concept Four:

At all responsible levels,

Count Yourself Again,
You ain’t so many!
"Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves."
WE ONCE HAD a college professor who said: "If every man in this room would
take five minutes a day alone with himself, I would have the world's most
industrious class in Chemistry I." We think we know now what he meant. And we
believe he meant that every man should take a daily personal inventory.
Now that we have taken the first three Steps of the program, we come to the 4th
Step. We have admitted that we were powerless over alcohol; that we came to
believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity; that we
made a decision to turn our wills and our lives over to the care of God as we
understand Him. At this point, we begin actively to do something about our
alcoholism.
Because there are as many ways to take personal inventory as there are
individuals in A.A., there are no rules about the process. Some persons make use
of a list of questions. Others simply take out a "quiet time" to meditate on
themselves. At least two members we know not only use a list of personal
questions about themselves but score themselves daily.
Such questions as--Am I in the habit of lying? Am I being honest with others? Do
I have any resentments? Am I a phony? Am I tolerant of the faults in others? Do I
really want to stop drinking or do I want to learn to drink like other persons?
What is my motive in joining A.A.? Am I desperate enough to put a higher value
on my sobriety than on anything else? Am I joining A.A. to help myself or to
please somebody else?--would do to get you started on the inventory. These
questions are merely suggestions, however, because only you will know what
questions to ask.
Again, experience of ourselves and others in A.A. has proved that once an honest
personal inventory is made, the person is rewarded with a feeling of relief.
The next step is to do something about the things that you have found wrong in
your life. Sometimes it isn't easy. Sometimes it's almost impossible. But if we are
to arrest the terrible compulsion of alcoholism, a sincere effort must be made to
correct our faults. Generally, the person will find many things in his life that he
can change easily. He will find that many of the worries and frustrations of his life
no longer exist in the cold light of sincere reasoning.
At a meeting recently, a member remarked: "It's your thinking that's stinking, not
your drinking." How true it is. How often have we rationalized about the things in
our lives that are directly concerned with our drinking? Serious effort with this 4th
Step will do much for your thinking because if you are not honest with yourself,
you can't possibly be honest about the A.A. program. And remember, if you don't
face the issues in your life, you are not fooling anyone but yourself. You're the
sick guy. Do something about it!
As it has so often been said: "Count yourself again, you ain't so many!"

requires 1 year sober and 30min of training. New meeting schedules (solar yellow) are available. Bets were taken
on how long it would be until the first correction. Unclear as to the legality of such wagering or whether Reggie’s
absence is related. The first correction came the day after the schedules were printed. Staff is requesting a small
110V water heater. Would gladly accept one donated by an AA member/group. Speakers for AA of the Air are
currently taped at the Experience, Strength and Hope (ESH) Group which meets from 7-8 PM on Monday Nights
at the Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church (5360 East Pima). The recordings are posted on aatucson.org. Still
working on getting recordings back on the radio. Next Intergroup meeting will be held on April 10th.

orientation is planned for Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Central Office. Bring a friend and enjoy free

October.
TREATMENT: ERIC N. 7 people attended most recent meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend, not just treatment
reps. Met with staff at Banner Behavioral Health. New meeting there Tuesdays 7-8pm, but still need 1st 2nd, and
4th weeks covered. Area 03 Treatment Chair will be speaking to the committee on how to make Bridging the Gap
more effective at the April meeting. Will be working with the pre-release corrections committee to help put on the
Worldwide Bridging the Gap Conference in Tucson in September. Discussed ways to let treatment centers know
the services AA can provide. Still need speakers for the Cottonwood and Amity meetings. PLEASE send a
treatment rep from your homegroup. Meeting the 1st Wednesday of every month at 6pm at CO.
PUBLIC INFORMATION (PI): KEN C. Ken is tied up at the book festival. Rescue may be dispatched shortly.
Report combined with CPC below.
COOPERATION WITH PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY (CPC): SUSAN K. Held monthly meeting on 2/24. 10
people attended. CPC committee has been invited to speak for ~2hrs to large group of professionals and grad
students at U of A on 4/8. Not sure exactly what the content will be. Perhaps puppets? “Speaking at Non-AA
Meetings/Events” workshop went well. CPC/PI attendance at events is usually by request only. Susan reminds
the group that “we usually don’t solicit” because “that’s how a lot of us got into AA”. Meetings are held on the 4th
Wednesday of every month at 5:30PM at Central Office. Next meeting will be 3/23.
GRAPEVINE (GV): BONNIE (FOR VIVIAN W.) People are getting suspicious about all the absences. Obligatory
grapevine joke read followed by obligatory laughter. Will be holding a Grapevine Writing Workshop for 5/7 at St.
James United Methodist Church on Campbell just north of Ft. Lowell from 2-4p. Learn how to get your story
published in the Grapevine and enjoy free refreshments. John gives an enthusiastic plug for the workshop. More
groups are getting subscriptions for corrections institutions. Please encourage your homegroup to elect a GV rep
and send them to the meeting. Meetings are held on the 1st Sunday of odd months at 2PM at Central Office. Next
meeting will be 5/1.
SPECIAL EVENTS: JOHN (FOR CHEYANNE T.) Cheyanne not present, which leads to mass confusion on the
actual location for Founders’ Day. After a thorough investigation, it is found that the event will be held at St.
Francis Cabrini which is the usual location. Founders’ Day, Christmas Alcothon, and New Years Alcothon are all in
need of Group(s)/Individuals to chair.
HISTORIAN: NANCY R., 328-7074 Collecting Tucson AA history from 1984-present. Still looking for a photo of
the Girls Club where the NW Alano Club used to reside. Will do a history presentation at Founders’ Day.

SPANISH-SPEAKING (SS) INTERGROUP LIAISON: DENISE B-A. Diego and Luis are attending to learn what
they can about how we structure our Intergroup committees. Grupo Tucson is celebrating its 25 year anniversary!
The SS Intergroup meeting is held on the last Thursday of every month at 7:30pm at 2914 E 22nd St.
AZ AREA LIAISON (INTERGROUP VICE CHAIR): TED M. Ted gives report on the Pacific Regional AA Service
Assembly. One of the hottest topics was “safety in AA meetings”. Also discussed frequently were: plain-language
translation of big book, how members identify themselves when sharing, anonymity on social media, young people
in AA, and the continued relevance of AA. Several observations on AA heard at PRAASA were shared by Ted
including “does your homegroup have rituals that could be off-putting to new members?” referring to how a group
in Las Vegas eliminated chanting. There are four topics that will be up for discussion at the pre-conference
assembly. Creating a plain-language translation of the Big Book received the most attention as noted by the
spirited and excruciatingly lengthy discussion. Not much discussion was brought up about the possibility of
allowing non-AA observers into the General Service Conference. There was plenty of laughter, but not much
discussion about the “dated” language in the 11th Concept essay in the service manual. There was some
discussion about whether or not we should add a reference to “AA Members and Medications” into the “If You are
a Professional” pamphlet.
AL-ANON: Al-Anon State Convention is 4/29-5/1 at the eastside Hilton. AA participation is needed to run
meetings. Pre-registration is available. Contact CPC Susan for details.
OLD BUSINESS: N/A
NEW BUSINESS / ANNOUNCEMENTS: New ‘Big Book Comes Alive’ workshop meeting on Friday nights at
7:30pm started on 1/15. Located at Good News Community Church, 701 W Glenn St. Meeting closed at 3:19pm
(almost 1 hour after last month’s) with Declaration of Unity and “I Am Responsible”.
