Arlo Sims Algebra 1 Recommending Teacher: Emily Samek Arlo pushed himself to go above and beyond this semester. He did any challenge problem handed to him and was helpful when classmates were having trouble. Dylan O’Dell Algebra 1 Recommending Teachers: Dionne Harden and Emily Samek Dylan was selected to move-‐up honors because she worked hard and her work was of the highest quality. She was always willing to help out a classmate and had outstanding participation in class. She was a real delight to teach. Sofia Canale-‐Parola Algebra 1 Recommending Teachers: Dionne Harden and Emily Samek Sofia came to CRLS without a love of math in her heart. I wouldn’t say that she “loves” it now but she is working incredibly hard, doing well, and helping out her classmates. She is a great asset in class and has shown incredible growth. Devonte Richards Geometry Recommending Teachers: Michael Murphy and Chris Nemitz Throughout the first semester Devonte consistently put forth exceptional effort in Honors Geometry. He stayed after school or came to school early for extra help before every test to ensure that he understood every concept that would be tested. When he did well on tests, it was no surprise. When he did not do as well as he wanted to, Devonte would make it his mission to find out where he went wrong and what he needed to do to correct it. Devonte demonstrated a great deal of personal responsibility. He held himself accountable for his grades and constantly worked toward improving them. Olivia Gardner-‐ Parlow Geometry Recommending Teacher: Michael Murphy Olivia started the semester off strong and ended even stronger. With a consistent effort and a never-‐give-‐up attitude, Olivia brought her grade from a B+ up to an A. Her fearless approach to problem solving was the biggest contributing factor in her success. Olivia waited until she was truly stumped before asking questions and the questions she asked were always good ones. Ashley St. Fleur Geometry Recommending Teacher: Michael Murphy Ashley pulled her grade up considerably from Q1 to Q2. As she gained confidence in her mathematical abilities, Ashley began participating more actively in class. She is now one of the most frequent contributors to class discussions and is a positive influence to her peers. Shuoyuan Xu Pre-‐Calculus Recommending Teacher: Brahim Khiraoui I find Shuoyuan to be a truly excellent student, an extraordinary math talent. Not only did he excel academically, he is highly cooperative and often a mentor to his colleagues. Arjun Joyce Pre-‐Calculus Recommending Teacher: Brahim Khiraoui Not only did Arjun excel academically, he regularly participates in class discussions and showed leadership and mentoring to his student colleagues. Arjun is an energetic and positive contributor to our math learning community. Ian Woodhouse AP Calculus AB Recommending Teacher: Brahim Khiraoui I find Ian to be an excellent student, extremely dedicated to learning advanced math, and highly disciplined in his studies and homework assignments. Emerson Wayland Functions, Statistics & Trigonometry Recommending Teacher: Erin Leggett Emerson has been a solid, hardworking student since the onset of FST, but over the last month or so she has really turned into a stellar math student. Not only has she received excellent scores on her last test and final, 101.5 and 94, respectfully, but Emerson is great at helping out her peers and explaining the how as well as the WHY behind solving problems. She was also one of the hardest working students in class! Talonsi Frith Functions, Statistics & Trigonometry Recommending Teacher: Erin Leggett I have been telling Talonsi that he’s capable of A-‐level work throughout the course, but unfortunately his outside of class work ethic as preventing him from realizing his potential. Talonsi got a perfect score on his FST final exam…and it was NOT easy. I want him to understand that he is an incredibly capable math student and can consistently earn high scores and/or achieve in an honors level class if he puts in the same effort he did in order to prepare for this test. It is highly doubtful that he could have pulled this score off without preparing outside of class. Jenny Curran Functions, Statistics & Trigonometry Recommending Teacher: Erin Leggett Jenny is the hardest working and most serious student in her class and in addition is turning into quite a fine math student. Jenny is happy to work with other students who might be struggling to help them understand the concepts. She always brings a positive attitude to class, is always willing to put her work up on the board or to provide an explanation, and serves as a great role model for her classmates. Hannah Levine Geometry Recommending Teacher: Erin Leggett Hannah has had the highest average in her class since the onset of the semester. Her work and performance are top notch and she pays attention to detail and does work of an extremely high quality. Far more impressive than her performance on assessments however, is the fact that Hannah has been such a valuable classmate to her peers. She is always willing to help a classmate with a problem or to understand a concept. When students are allowed to work with a partner of their choice, there is often a battle over who gets to work Hannah. Hannah could easily choose to work with someone who has a solid understanding of the concept, but instead she happily works with a student who might be less than proficient. She demonstrates patience and acceptance of the fact that they might not “get it” as quickly as she does. She could complete her work in half the time if working independently, but Hannah chooses to help her classmates and as a result takes more time to complete her own work. There are other students who might grasp the concepts as well as her, but I LOVE that Hannah is such a team player and has a little bit of teacher in her! Hanna Nur Geometry Recommending Teacher: Kate Sorenson Hanna’s tenacity to succeed in Honors Geometry is tremendously commendable. Before tests, Hanna comes in early for two or three days prior to the exam. She works tirelessly in class to understand the material and always asks for assistance when she is confused. She pushes her partner to work diligently so that their classwork represents 100% comprehension. She has a fire in her to succeed. Despite her ferociousness to get good grades, Hanna comes off as one of the kindest students I have ever taught. Her confidence this year has grown remarkably, as it should, with the amount of success she has had second quarter. I have no doubt that Hanna will do great things in life. She has the academic skills, motivation, and intellectual capacity to succeed. It is refreshing to work with a young woman who cares so much for school and for others. She will be able to do whatever she puts her mind to in life and those around her will find themselves happy to be around her.
Veronika Oiestad Geometry Recommending Teachers: Chris Nemitz & Kate Sorenson Veronika is a tenacious, soft spoken, highly intelligent student. She is organized with her materials as well as time management. The quality of her work is constantly excellent. She works well in groups, partners or by herself. Veronika is a self starter who isn’t afraid to push herself and take academic risks. She is also kind and works well with others. Due to her quiet demeanor she sometimes gets overlooked. This is one of the reasons we feel very strongly about recognizing her in this way. Our classroom is a better place with her in it. Inbal Sultan Geometry Recommending Teachers: Kate Sorenson & Chris Nemitz Inbal Sultan earned an A+ Quarter 1 in Geometry and is maintaining a high A grade in Quarter 2. Her outstanding classwork, homework, and tests show a desire to understand the content 100%. In addition to her strong content knowledge, Inbal has good character. She is an extremely kind and easy going person who adds value to any group activity. Lastly, Inbal is an English Language Learner and has grown remarkable in terms of participation. She has pushed herself to speak more and more in class. It has been a pleasure working with Inbal in Geometry. She will unquestionably go far in the math classroom and in life.
