Millions of people visit national parks each year. Some park officials
worry that large numbers of visitors will cause damage to the parks. People
who walk in the park trample plants and soil, causing erosion. As people drive
through the parks, their cars put out harmful chemicals that may damage
plant life. At one park, pine tree needles are turning yellow. Park officials at
another park believe that animals may be moving away from their homes and
feeding grounds due to noise from helicopters and airplanes.
