News from the offices of Munn-Reese, Inc. December 2011 Thumbs Feebleman, Editor & F.C.C. Theologian [email protected] www.Munn-Reese.com It’s Christmas! Followers of the Christian faith celebrate the birth of God’s Son, the Christ child at this season each year. Did you ever think how different the Christmas story might have been if our modern media planned the event? Just © 2011 – Munn-Reese, Inc. – Unauthorized Reproduction is Prohibited imagine what the Promotions Department could have done with this. Certainly there would be a huge remote with lots of lights and music held at some large, classy venue. And there would have been the weeks of promotions, and probably a contest or two—maybe one to predict the exact time and date of the birth! But that’s not at all how God chose to do it. He chose a young teenage girl living in an occupied land to be the mother. And the first people to hear the news were shepherds of all people! Many scholars believe the shepherds were social outcasts—the “uneducated” of that day. And the location! Who would choose an obscure animal feeding trough? Just imagine your ENG crew trying to get shots of that for the 11 o’clock news! Ironically, the Biblical records show that God often chooses to use unlikely people and places to do His work. That’s part of what gives us hope in the Christmas story. Later in the New Testament God would choose a man named Saul who was persecuting His followers and transform him into the Apostle Paul who wrote many of the books in the New Testament. God sees us not just for who we are, but for who we can be. No wonder the Apostle Paul later wrote to the followers of Jesus at Rome, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.” May your Holiday and New Year be filled with hope because of God’s great Gift! Thumbs wants you to know that this is a long draconian read that can make most persons totally comatose after just reading the first 10 paragraphs. In short, building a tower gets more complicated and Mother Nature still cares for the birds. The Chicago Office Received Information that an unlicensed digital TV station on digital Channel 20 was operating in the state of Kentucky. On November 10, 2011, an agent confirmed by direction-finding techniques that radio signals on Channel 20 were emanating from the unlicensed location. The Commission’s records show that the construction permit for this station expired November 19, 2008. Oops! DOC-311455A1 Case Number: EB-10-SF-0252, EB-11-SF-0325 and EB-11-SF-0326. The San Francisco FCC Field Office received information that an unlicensed land mobile radio station was causing interference to the America Search and Rescue radio system. On November 2, 2011, with the boldness of Elliot Ness and the steady demeanor of Sergeant Joe Friday, FCC agents inspected the “The Hustler Club”, “The DEJA-VU Centerfolds Club” and “The Gold Club” for an unlicensed land mobile transmitter. Thumbs can hear Sergeant Friday speak his dead pan line, “All we want are the facts ma’am.” It is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that the San Francisco FCC field office has had more fun than some of the other enforcement teams. The agents apparently found three unlicensed transmitters and the official “Notice of Unlicensed Operation” by enforcement action were issued to all three businesses.
