PRINCIPLE Have you been doing the same routine for months or even years? When something throws you off your routine does it annoy you rather than inspire you to try something different? I will often coach people on the benefits of varying routines regularly especially if they find they are no longer achieving the desired results. Applying the F.I.T.T. principle will not only jumpstart your progress once again but will help keep you from becoming bored, unmotivated and complacent about your workouts. I . T . F.I.T.T STANDS FOR: FREQUENCY: Vary the amount of time you are spending exercising. Try adding a few extra days for a few weeks and then backing off to give your body a rest and time to recuperate. INTENSITY: Do you consistently work out at the same intensity? Try increasing your intensity by adding extra weight, pushing harder during F ! . intervals, or working out longer. TYPE: It’s okay to choose your favorite type of exercise and stick with it, after all if you enjoy it and it motivates you then you’ll do it and that’s the most important thing. But remember variety counts when it comes to exercise. Our bodies are very efficient at taking the path of least resistance. We will adapt to any type of exercise quickly so to keep your body guessing and improving try mixing it up once in a while. TIME: This stands for how long you are exercising. How much time you spend doing each type of exercise during your workout; i.e. what proportion is cardio, weights, stretching etc.? How long are you spending exercising in total? And what time of day do you normally work out? Incorporating variety with regards to time is an easy way to switch things up. Remember longer isn’t always better. T . By using these four principles either alone or by incorporating a few at once you can ensure you will not only be successful in creating lasting results but you will remain motivated. Learning to accept change is the best thing you can do for your mental and physical well being. > CONGRATULATIONS Tennis Corner to John Kosziwka! John has been selected to train and teach at the Canterbury Tennis Academy in New Zealand. John is an HRC junior member who has played in our High Performance Academy and currently is teaching some of our junior progressive tennis programs. Good luck John!! > NEWS FLASH!! Erin Routliffe will be join- ing our teaching staff this fall. Having recently won the Under 16 Nationals and being a finalist in the Under 18 Nationals, Erin has a wealth of competitive experience. When she’s not competing or training, she will be coaching some of our kids programs. Welcome Erin!! > JoAnn’s Tip of The Month: Get A (new) Grip! One of the most common causes of tennis elbow is the grip on your handle. As the racquet is used and the grip is worn, it loses its cushion which results in the impact of the ball being absorbed by your arm. Some players simply add an overgrip when the grip gets worn which does not have the same effect as replacing the original grip. Make sure you change your grip regularly or you may find yourself developing elbow problems. > ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS!! Check out Junior Cardio Tennis Class (BAM Tennis) specifically for Juniors. Lots of fun, movement, and hitting. All levels welcome, racquets provided. Tuesdays 4:30-5:15 starting September 20th. Junior members: Free! Squash Corner > GOOD NEWS! Squash fit is returning to the fitness schedule. Join Johnny on Monday mornings at 10:30 for an invigorating and intense 45 minute workout on the squash courts. > HRC > Johnny’s Tip of The Month: Racquet Preparation: As soon as you can tell if the ball is going to the backhand or forehand quickly get your hand behind the ball to SET up for the shot. Keeping the racquet face slightly open to the front wall will give you more options once you have reached the ball. Good luck with your squash and have fun!!!!!!! 205467 County Rd. 109 Orangeville, ON IS HOSTING the Ontario Masters Womens Team Tournament September 23-25.
